I would start with our defence, for me thats our main weakness.
At least 2 CB's,a left back,a right back and at least one back up goalkeeper.

Doesn't look good does it.

A replacement for Lloris.
A replacement for Verts.
Probably a replacement for Kaboul.
A decent LB.
A creative central midfielder.
A decent young striker.

Of course we'll probably leave ourselves short by spunking our entire Summer budget on some flash in the pan from the world cup, who turns out to be the new Zokora.

Leaving us no money and no time to buy a left back. That's ok, we still have 26 CM's.

Just the Club overall.
Personally, I think 3. 1 x LB (don't think many would disagree there), 1 x Sub GK (Unless Friedel signs for another year and he still looks capable) 1 x CB with strong leadership skills. Dawson, is a player I like but should be 4th choice for a team with our ambition, Kaboul is yet to prove that he will get over his injury problems and Chiriches isn't a player I would want to be partnered with Verts too often.

The leaders thing is something we are missing. A cb and attacker who are arrogant born winners and leaders would be great.

Two vdv type characters basically

I think a massive problem with our team is the fact were missing a deep lying playmaker. We've never had one since Modric left...i can see us going for Matteo Kovacic, or if LVG fancies trying to persuade Kevin Strootman to join, that'd also be swell.

I hear David Bentley is available too

I agree with the CB. Any suggestions for players for these two roles?

Not too sure about the squad overall, think we could do with quite a few changes but feel we would benefit a lot from a Davids type signing who is a leader and a winner.
A few options (unlikely)
VDV - Would bring some creativity and passion already a fan favourite and i think hamburg are in the relegation zone so could be open to a move back.
Puyol - Already said he is leaving Barca at the end of the season, Would be a very good back up CB and bring a lot of experience
Pirlo - Have been linked with him in the past and think out of contract in the summer, Were in desperate need of someone who can pass in the middle of the park and could seriously develop some of our midfielders especially Bentaleb and Carrol.
I do think these are very unlikely to happen though and still wouldn't sort out all our problems but would be a start and none of these players would accept some of the results we've had this year and hopefully their attitude would rub off on the rest of the squad.

I like that except I feel there is not enough leadership at the back. Swap Kaboul (if cant get over injury troubles) or Caulker with a leader and spot on IMO.

I really think that if Vertonghen or Kaboul were given the captaincy they would step up as leaders. I think we need to get Caulker back as not only is he home grown, he's also club trained, which we would need if we get into the CL the following season. The only sort of player I was thinking of adding was a Modric type midfielder. I've picked a 24 man squad so I could still add one more player to it. Just didn't know who to go for.

I haven't seen anything from Kaboul or Verts to suggest they can be real leaders. True leaders lift the whole team just by there presence on the field (think about Ledders). A good example of this is Dortumnd in the quarter final of the CL last year. They went 2-1 down with 8 mins to go needing 2 goals to go through (1 goal and they would be out on away goals). Dortmund looked deflated and rather than bring on an attacker the coach brought on a defender, Hummels, who, as soon as he came on the pitch lifted the whole team to score 2 goals in the last minute.

I don't see Kaboul & Verts ever having the presence to lift the team like that.

VDV's fitness/injury problems would be a problem (in the EPL). We need the leaders to stay on the pitch for the full 90.
Puyol - Is he still any good? Doesn't he have major injury problems now?
Pirlo is apparently about to sign/has signed a new contract. Also, I've heard he has declined (physically) this year and probably couldn't handle the speed of the EPL and I'm one of the people who think with his brain and tekkers that he would have been able to in the past.
