sure, lets bring in 10 new players because that hasn't been a problem for us in the past...

It's realistic when Levy is chairman :sneaky:

I expect a player exodus during the Summer, even ones I included in my squad like Hugo and Jan will probably be pushing for a move. Ideally I'd like to keep most of the squad for stability and continuity, but I think we'll cut our losses with some and others will want to leave. Adebayor for example is primed to be sold you'd think. He's 30, stock is currently high, and we'll be having to pay his full wages next season. I wouldn't be surprised then if Levy decided to cash in, even though I'd like us to keep hold of him.

And of the players I suggested, a couple are out of contract in the summer, and the others wouldn't cost the earth and fit the bill in terms of potential. I've also edited the original post, as I think some prospects from our youth ranks could fill the voids instead, and included a few like Paulinho & Chadli, although again I wouldn't be shocked if they left either.

I'm aware it isn't that wise to have such a turnover of players, but I do half expect it considering the above and the probability of changes in the DOF and managerial roles.

Best case scenario? Bold bought, italics likely to leave.
Leaving: Friedel (ret.), Gomes (poor bastard), Gylfi (sorry, I like him).

Lloris, Boruc, Archer

Walker, Naughton

Vertonghen, Chiriches, Caulker, Veljkovic, Dawson (because we should have five)

Davies, Rose

Sandro, Capoue

Paulinho, Dembele, Bentaleb

Lennon, Chadli, Townsend

Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby

Soldado, Ade, New st, Kane

27 players of which Archer, Kane and Veljkovic don´t count? Or am I mistaken?

Give Carroll a PL-loan. Falque I like, but who knows, hopefully a good loan. Fryers could well be a handy backup across the back four.

Personally I think we need mature heads in the dressing room. Tim says the same thing as Harry - we need winners. Guys who will set an example - lead the young ones on. Create a winning mentality. You know what I mean? You can't learn this on your own.

Its like that new app designed by Pablo Rochat and Chris Allick, Lick This. This is an app that helps you to improve your cunnilingus technique by licking on your touchscreen. Great for desperate teens wanting to learn about sex and cunnilingus techniques. But it isnt the same as getting some worldly chick to teach you....and if she looks like Monica Belluci did in Matrix even better....er as long as she doesnt have large lips...thats like getting swallowed by a bean bag or caught in the curtains at your school's end of year bash just as your trying to come out on stage and give a speech. Not a good look and poor technique.

Looks like we'll lose a couple of players, and if Sherwood's still in charge next season: the starting XI will look as follows...

GK - Friedel
D - Walker, Dawson, Fryers & Rose
M - Townsend, Bentaleb, Chadli, Lennon
F - Adebayor, Kane

Good mix of youth and experience! Long term strategy : Bringing grass-roots English football back to the Premiership before rebuilding for the kill! Fun, free-flowing football for all to feast their hungry eyes upon... and more importantly.. goals! goals! goals*

Early days, but judging by now how should our team look like for example (always dependant on coach)

Here my first thoughts:

1 Casillas (who knows? Bale & Modric could help and our "partnership" as well) / Begovic
22 Robinson (Or another english keeper who can do the business when needed)
34 Archer

2 Walker
3 Caulker
4 New left back (Ben Davies, Luke Shaw (not realistic), ... )
5 Quality Centre Back (Schär? )
6 Chiriches
16 Naughton
20 Dawson
24 Veljkovic
35 Fryers

7 Lallana
11 Lamela
14 Holtby
15 Capoue
19 Dembele/ 8 Paulinho / 8 Lampard ( i do think a character like him is useful)
23 Eriksen
30 Sandro
31 Townsend
42 Bentaleb

9 Soldado
10 Adebayor
21 Chadli / Mirallas
37 Kane

Townsend is now no.17, no longer no. 31.

And giving a centre back (Caulker) the no.3 and a left back the no.4 deeply offends my OCD lol.

GK: Lloris NewGK Archer (3 for 1 position)
RB: Walker Naughton (2 for 1 position)
CB: NewCB* Chiriches Dawson Veljkovic (4 for 2 positions)
LB: Ekotto** Fryers (2 for 1 position)
DM: Sandro Capoue (2 for 1 position)
CM: Dembele Eriksen Holtby Carroll (4 for 2 positions)
FW: Adebayor Soldado Lamela Lennon Kane Pritchard (6 for 3 positions)

I'm basing the above on wanting us to play a 433 whereby the front 3 is tailored to opposition defences (2 up top? Inverted wingers? Wingers? Etc).

In goal, keep Lloris. We’re not going to get better than him, we’re not even going to get comparable. Valdes and Casillas won’t come to us, they’ll go for paydays if they leave their clubs. I’d rather lose Lloris for free one day and have the benefit of his service in goal until then than ever sell him. We do need a deputy for him though, and I’m not necessarily suggesting someone ahead of Archer in the pecking order, more someone of similar standard and age to Archer and let them fight it out to be no.2.

In the middle, I do think that there should always be a defensive midfielder, not least because it allows us to have lighter players like Eriksen and Carroll play front deeper. In the two in front, it would be nice to always have one of Dembele or Holtby, as the harder working two of those four players, in the side, but I genuinely believe the presence of Sandro would negate the necessity here. As for Bentaleb not being there, yes, I’m absolute in that. He’s exactly what I don’t want in a central midfielder, a jack of all trades and master of none. He (like Jenas used to) pretends to take responsibility by having many touches and playing many passes, but does absolutely nothing progressive. I can’t stand that. I hope he proves me wrong. As for no Paulinho, the guy just does very little, and the little he does do doesn’t justify all that he doesn’t. I can live with a central midfielder not getting involved much if he is scoring double figures, or every pass is a killer pass, but Paulinho doesn’t bring that, he brings and occasional flash of skill drowning in a sea of heavy touches and disappearing acts. Holtby and Eriksen may not be juggernauts but I don’t ever see them disappearing. Carroll admittedly is a leap of faith, and why him and not Bentaleb or Paulinho one might ask? Simple answer is, with Capoue, Sandro, Dembele, Eriksen and Holtby even there’s a lot of experience there for, ultimately, 3 positions, and to me Bentaleb and Paulinho have both shown me little to be encouraged by, while Carroll has not yet had a consistent opportunity to disappoint (yes, it is a ‘he can’t be any worse’ thing).

The forwards, Adebayor can play in any type of front line as he has it all. Soldado, despite early impressions, can too, he has done his whole career, a poor adjustment period doesn’t change that, and I keep faith in Kane too personally. Lennon, even if not what we’d like him to be, is a good player and, as wholesale changes (as we know) are inadvisable, should be retained as in Chadli, Townsend and Siggurdsson we have three players who are better candidates for the chopping block. It might seem a little light on experience in the front three positions, but that’s not accounting for the fact that Eriksen, Dembele and, at a push, Holtby, can all slot into that part of the pitch too if required. The only real question mark for me is Kane, I have faith in him but would also be understanding were he to be replaced with something a bit more proven. The only way we’d be screwed with these options in my opinion is if Ade, Soldado and Kane were all injured at once, which is very unlikely even with our luck. As for Pritchard, he’s been brilliant this season, has been nominated with just two other players (both in the league above him) to be the Football League young player of the year, and clearly has ability. Throw him in at the deep end and see what happens, we’ve given far inferior players opportunities. If he sinks, at least we tried and we still have plenty of experienced players for that role, but if he’s a success it solves a lot of problems.

I’ve left the defence till last because this is probably the hardest area. Right back we’re fine with. Walker is very good, Naughton as a deputy is fine. It’s not a position, especially at our level, where you can have two top class players. Left back is another matter. Ekotto is asterisked because it may well be the case that he’s moved on whatever happens, and maybe a year in the doldrums will have reduced what he has to offer anyway. If that’s the case, then we need to sign a new left back. I’d ship Rose out regardless, I think he’s talentless, lazy and a bit of a piss artist. Fryers at least has a good attitude and stamina like a racehorse, so Fryers as back up to a top class left back (or Ekotto if he’s still up to it) is the way I’d go. Defence is a tough one, because we might be facing the prospect of losing both Vertonghen and Kaboul for different reasons. If this happens, then we need to keep Dawson as otherwise we’ve lost all our experienced centre backs in one go and you just can’t do that. If Vertonghen wants to stay, and Kaboul is able to stay, then I’d make no changes to our defence and loan out Veljkovic. If Vertonghen wants to stay then I’d sell Dawson and promote Veljkovic. If Kaboul can stay but Vertonghen leaves, given Kaboul’s injury record I’d still keep Dawson and promote Veljkovic. If both leave then a new, top class centre back is a must, one in the Kaboul mould (beast) as I believe that, like Vertonghen, Pique, etc Chiriches will look class next to a beast centre back as his defensive lackings won’t be exposed particularly and we’d have the benefit of his ball playing from the back still. With Chiriches I’m looking at potential, and right now he’s actually the only centre back I think should definitely remain for next season.

There you have it, a squad which fills the first team with internationals, has a bench with both reliable experience and youth, versatility across the front 6 for many circumstances and not flooded with 25 players who will expect to play every week, and therefore leave at least 5/6 players disgruntled at all times. Most importantly, there’s not much new blood being introduced, especially not to the first team, so we’d actually have some continuity.

Manager: LVG - I'm not sure he'll be a success with Levy/PL but we'll never have a chance to appoint someone with his record again. Formation 433.

GK: Begovic, young up and coming GK, Archer - Lloris wants out, and tbh as good as he can be, he's also a liability from time to time, and I don't see any communication between him and the back four. Kicking atrocious too. Begovic is commanding, knows the league and would cost a fraction of the price we receive. If Casillas is looking to leave Real, would consider a big deal, could be someone to form a dressing room culture behind, and lead the team. Think he would consider London as a destination, and LVG could lure him.

RB: Walker, Calum Chambers - I'd give Walker one year under someone like LVG to see if he can become more rounded. Ship Naughton out, and while everyone is fighting over Shaw, nip in and make Southampton and offer they can't refuse for Chambers.

LB: Rodriguez, Fryers - Seen a bit of Rodriguez in Bundesliga, looks the real deal, maybe there'll be bigger fish in for him. Been mildy impressed with Fryers, give him the understudy role.

CB: Chirches, van Dijk, Schar, Caulker - Verts gone IMO, Dawson needs to be ushered out, won't fit in any better with LVG than AVB. Kaboul gone too, unless he can find some form and fitness in the rest of the season. Liked what I've seen of van Dijk at Celtic, dominating defender, obviously a step up coming to the PL. Schar looks a class act. Bring back Caulker as the "stopper".

DM: Sandro, Capoue. - No change here. Sandro needs a run of games though. Capoue should prosper under a manager like LVG.

CM: Jordy Clasie, Dembele, Bentelab - LVG will know all about Clasie. Someone to set the tempo, knows the Dutch style.

AM: Eriksen, Paulinho - Different style AMs, but both could flourish in a genuine 433.

RM: Lamela, Kampl - Give Erik time, Kampl from Salzburg an exciting player to challenge.

LM: Townsend - A.N. Other - Want to see Andros have a season on the left going at fullbacks.

FW: Adebayor, Batshuayi, Kane - Sell Soldado, go for someone young and hungry like Batshuayi.

There you go only another 8 players in! Simples...

The word in the thread title is Realistic?

Mangala, Mandzukic, Shaw, Strootman? Without CL and CL windfall and no £100m player to cash in?

Same with Liverpool fans. Kroos? Benzema? Get real.

It seems both sets of fans like to play Footy Manager and mix it up with reality as if its that simple.

Mangala will be going to City for upwards of £30m according to Julien Laurens and they nearly got him in Jan. So both our clubs can forget about him.

The LB Rodriguez is being scouted by every top European club on a weekly basis they said on the Euro Footy Show on BT Sport so the cats out the bag on that one too, plus he'd cost a fortune. That young Spanish LB at Sevilla (Moreno?) would be a better bet for both our clubs.

The only clubs that can afford Shaw are Utd, City and Chavs (unless he wants to go abroad which I don't think he does) and he's a massive CFC fan - who desperately need a new long-term LB so no worried about playing regularly - so both LFC and Spurs can forget that.

I'm not even dignifying Mandzukic or Kroos with a response.

Saints won't sell Lallana for anything less than £25m their local paper says and with him being Captain, a local lad, and been there all his footballing career they don't expect him to be going anywhere so with both them points in mind I can't see him moving this Summer unless City/Chavs/Utd came steaming in with ridiculous barrows of money.

Konoplyanka will go to whichever club has best chance of guaranteed CL and not just qualifying for the qualifier. A lot of clubs are after him now due to his cheapness as his contract is entering its last year. If LFC came 3rd I think its pretty likely he'll be off their unless one of the big money teams came in.

The last thing that amuses me is seeing both Liverpool and some Spurs fans advocating for their clubs to bring in a min of 7/8/9+ players in Summer, despite everything the people who know about football have said about Spurs brining in too many signings all at once and the consequences of this on team cohesion and gelling as a team. Imo, both clubs should be looking at 3 first teamers tops, then another in Jan if necessary.

I'd give both Vertonghen and Lloris new contracts with a bump in pay. People here are grossly overestimating our ability to replace this type of quality in a World Cup year when transfer activity of all clubs will be delayed.

I'd sell Townsend, Lennon, and Sigurdsson. The lack of creativity from these three is shocking. 1 assist in over 3600 combined league minutes played. Luckily, I think Levy could get approximately 20 million pounds back for them. Add in the Defoe money from January and we can bring in a few difference makers with just a little net spend.

I'd buy Adam Johnson as a replacement for Townsend/Lennon. He's versatile and unlike those two, has end product on top of his pace. I'd also pay the 15 million pounds to QPR for Remy. He can play on the left of a 4-3-3 or up top on his own. We'd be 3rd had we loaned him last summer. Buying a left-back and centre-back would also be priorities. I really like the Daley Blind suggestion. He's very talented and given our contacts with Ajax, very realistic. Schar would be a class purchase, as well, with us letting Kaboul go.

With LVG as manager, something like this would see us in good shape, as it has it all (goals, pace, steel, creativity, trickery, etc).

Lloris
Walker Schar Vertonghen Blind

Sandro
Paulinho Eriksen
Lamela Adebayor/Soldado Remy

Would like us to sign players in positions that need strengthening this summer not just a random pick a player out of a hat job we usually come up with.
think we need a left back, centre back, playmaker midfielder
I would go for 3 realistic players that are availble and wouldnt be too expensive
cole, lescott, and jo allen. Not the most popular choices I know but what we lack and what these player offer is a good fit.
cole and lescott offer good prem experience and are strong characters and jo allen is a good player who could help us in moving the ball quicker, always show for the ball and dictate the tempo of our play

We've got no chance of konoplyanka. Surprised how many people are calling that one.

One thing I notice, and I agree with, is that a lot of the homegrown players are ones we could see leaving, or would want to leave, whilst others have Carroll and fryers going on loan.

Got me wondering, who are realistic homegrown options to replace expected/desired departures in the summer such as siggy and Lennon? Typically everyone is going foreign with every new player. Id consider the following if our hg quota needed addressing after getting rid of the deadwood

Mc carthy from reading gk no 2 future no 1. Or schmeicel but might be hard with lesta getting into the premier

Liam Moore from lesta

Schneiderlin

Johnson from sunlun

Hughes from Derby, future creative cm

Ashley Cole on a free

Assombalonga or ings as young 3rd choice striker

Ince on a free or Redmond from Norwich

I don't like big changes but i think this summer a complete overhaul of the defence is necessary, kaboul out of contract, Daws race looks run, Verts i think will be off and to me Vlad is quality but CB in this league doesn't suit but would love him as a DM, Rose isn't good enough and personally i'm not a fan of his attitude. So defensively i think we will see wholesale changes, squad i would like is something like this.

GK - Lloris, New, Archer (u21)

RB - Walker(hg), Naughton(hg)
LB - New, Fryers (u21)
CB - New, New, New, Kaboul, Velikojic (u21)

CM - Sandro, Vlad, Bentaleb(u21), Dembele, Livermore(hg)

Wide - Lamela, Chadli, Townsend(hg) New

10's - Eriksen, Paulinho, Holtby

CF - Ade, Soldado, Kane(hg)

Out:

Vertonghen (15)
Dawson (4)
Rose (6)
Capoue (8)
Lennon (7)
Sigurdsson (7)
BAE (2)
Friedel (F)

Total 49m

In:

GK x1
LB x1
CB x3
Wide x1
