all this talk about hoping we sign someone before 12 so they can play against manure is IMO rediculous. Even if we registered them in time they would not have trained with the squad and im sure AVB is shrewd enough to realise he can rely on what we already have than someone who has just walked through the door. admittedly we need re-enforcements but we need to take each player, and game on its merits. Throwing a new player (2 days at the club) into a game of this magnitude makes no sense. With regard to earlier comments about buying cover for Sandro. Parker is that cover (good enough for our player of the season last year). Signing a player to cover 'just incase' isnt financially viable and leaves us with a player taking up a chunk of our wage budget when 'the beast' returns.
Parker is of course a fantastic player but he is getting up there in age and has long-standing injury problems. Players like Sissoko and Diame are reportedly available at low cost this window and could make a major difference in the race for fourth should Parker or Dembele, who is clearly still feeling his hip injury, go down for an extended period of time.

Edit: forgot to mention that Scott's age means that Levy will try to get what he can for him soon. If QPR stay up I can see us getting nearly our full investment in him back in the summer. A DM in this window would not be merely a short-term fix.

Edit 2: Sorry, it being 5:00 here in the States I was skimming through quickly and didn't read the first part of your post, which is absolutely spot on. I've taken back my disagree rating but stand by my point about the need for a DM this window.

To all those going "M'Vila is a nutcase," didn't you guys ever make any mistakes when you were 20/21? He's made some bad choices, but with the right guidance, he still has his best years ahead of him.

Sissoko seems like the perfect answer, out of contract in the summer and the potential to be our Vieira for years to come.

Short term: Parker - Sissoko

Long term: Sandro - Sissoko

Send Jake out on loan, give him regular football and see what he's got to offer week in week out in the premier league.

Dembele?

Yes this is true. The question would be is AVB the right man to take him under his wing and guide him?

I dont know the answer to that.

I would not mind at all if M'Vila joined the mighty Spurs. Our team of nice fellas could do with a basterd/nutcase/psychopath in their ranks.

I'm late to the party, 'cos of snow blocking my keyboard...

I see sissoko and m'vila being linked - jj/ryan mentioning the latter - but has anyone itk actually suggested sissoko or are we all naming players we like again?

serious question! (y)
This!

Anyone? I know we've been linked previously (£15m bid or similar) but I don't recall any ITK on our interest in this window. It just all seems circumstantial, with his contract winding down.

Why? do you think we play better with 10 men?
Know what you mean, some one with the Roy Kean look in his eye.

In my other beloved game of Australian Rules Football the kids that get drafted to teams (they must be 18 to be drafted) are mentored very heavily in all aspects including life outside of the game and how they should act and behave. It doesn't always work and some kids cannot learn. That will always happen in any game. i guess if your just a bad seed thats just the way it is. I personally like to feel that everyone can change when your life and future depends on it.
So maybe there is hope for M'Villa

But i doubt it!

I think the bigger concern is that his form hasn't actually been that good recently, which seems to be linked to him being a nutcase.

On the Football Weekly podcast, Philip Auclaire was saying that he hasn't been that great recently, but that he definitely does have talent.

I think it's worth a shot though if the price is right.

I dont know the answer to that.

He strikes me as more of a number cruncher than a man manager, but then again his players at Porto seem to love him so who knows.

To all those talking about jake Livermore and Tom Carroll, IMO they're not good enough, one of spurs flaws is the youth set up, we have always bought good young prospects in we don't tend to have the set up right to produce players that can make the transition to first team, with the exception of ledley, look at the pekharts and the livermores. Unfortunately the Middlesbrough and west hams of this world have a better track record. Although generally we have identified good young talent and made some shrewd signings with bale being the obvious example. My point is that we need players in certain positions and currently our young players aren't good enough, we need to spend and strengthen, I think levy will bring in some established players this window

As long as the player is the business.....

Don't want no Pat Van Den Hauwe or Ben Thatcher's. Seriously used to squirm.
