I have to differ my friend, our nexgen teams are doing extremely well. U18 and U21 both have lots of talent in their teams and we can expect some of them to really start pushing for a place in the 1st team squad very soon. With Barca reportedly looking at some of our players and with the team teaching other top european sides U18 and U21 teams a lesson I think our future is looking rosy.
Point taken and I agree our nextgen teams are performing well and the future will show, I was more making reference to the past 5yrs to players that are floating around the squad and may affect this transfer window and the next or not.....up until now we've not got it right and have needed to spend, I see that as the current status quo but think in the near future it could be different

We was offered Fernandes last season! I actually think he's a very good player.

He's capable of some mouth watering stuff, but is he consistent enough? He was pretty good for Everton but I haven't seen much of him in Valencia and even less from his time in Turkey.

To all those going "M'Vila is a nutcase," didn't you guys ever make any mistakes when you were 20/21? He's made some bad choices, but with the right guidance, he still has his best years ahead of him.

Oh.....you're supposed to stop when you get to 21?

M'Villa is a very decent option. I would be frustrated if he goes to QPR. Depends on our aspirations.

I don't think we can assume that Dembele and Parker will be fit/not suspended for the rest of the season which means that we have Hudd, Livermore and Siggy as options. I don't see those players contributing to us getting into the top 4 (Siggy maybe further forward). If Sandro is out for the rest of the season, I feel we need another Midfielder to the level of Parker, Dembele and Sandro to provide real strength.

Happy to ship out both Hudd and Livermore thereafter.

In a time when money is tight (apparently) and when our needs appear more in the striking department id rather we spent on a good/ great striker than spend on what would essentially be firstly backup for the beast and secondly a future replacement for parker. I think people forget parkers contribution last year. If we can get another year or two from him then bring through a prospect to replace him, happy days. In all honesty this may be how we need to think with a new stadium and associated costs on the horizon

Vargas would be a cheapish option for a wide forward punt if Napoli are struggling with the bills. Youngish. Not exactly exciting names to be linked with though.

To all those talking about jake Livermore and Tom Carroll, IMO they're not good enough, one of spurs flaws is the youth set up, we have always bought good young prospects in we don't tend to have the set up right to produce players that can make the transition to first team, with the exception of ledley, look at the pekharts and the livermores. Unfortunately the Middlesbrough and west hams of this world have a better track record. Although generally we have identified good young talent and made some shrewd signings with bale being the obvious example. My point is that we need players in certain positions and currently our young players aren't good enough, we need to spend and strengthen, I think levy will bring in some established players this window

Aside to Downing (whos sh!t) and Johnson who have Middlesbrough produced?

It's easier for a team like West Ham to give young players game time as finances and the expectations and demands of the team are not as great as at a club like ours. Unfortunately this is the modern game where demand for instant success is so great that managers find it harder to blood young players like previously.

I don't believe Livermore or Townsend will ever be a Tottenham regulars but Carroll looks a real prospect and could benefit with a season on loan. So much comes down to where they go, look what a year on loan in the Prem did for that little prick Wiltshire.

To be honest i never watched him at Valencia. He was excellent at Everton but they didnt have the finances to keep him on a permanent basis. A very good all round player but not sure how consistent! Plus i don't think he's what we're looking for...

Saw a bit of Fernandes when he was at Pompey as I live down here, he's pretty ordinary to be honest, I'd be pretty underwhelmed if we signed him

Why don't Everton want him back ?

Problem with the fee I suppose. Probably some third party owner thingy.

Edit:

Wiki says:

"With Everton manager David Moyes reluctant to pay Benfica's reported £12 million asking price, Fernandes returned to Benfica in the summer, where he had several good performances during the pre-season. On 8 August 2007, it was reported that Everton had made an offer of £6 million for the player.[11] On 13 August, it was confirmed by both clubs that the player was the subject of an acceptable bid from the English side, believed to be £6 million for Benfica's 50% share in the player, with Everton having to negotiate with Global Sports Investment for the other half his playing rights. Later reports indicated Everton were willing to pay £12 million for 100% of the rights.[12]"

Then Valencia came in and bid £12m and got him.

To be honest i never watched him at Valencia. He was excellent at Everton but they didnt have the finances to keep him on a permanent basis. A very good all round player but not sure how consistent! Plus i don't think he's what we're looking for...

Just finished watching a cut-up of him in Valencia against Barca and he's got plenty of tricks in his bag.
