Saw this old post and made me wonder if anyone knows of any professional players that have posted on message boards / forums.
THE MILLWALL striker, Darren Byfield, has attempted to close the vast gulf that exists between footballers and fans by logging on to the supporters’ independent website, MillwallOnline, and trying to engage people in rational, good-humoured conversation. It is a story worth telling for the sheer nobility of the enterprise and its, erm, predictable outcome.

Byfield posted a message under the name of “babyboy” (the endearment used, apparently, by his girlfriend Jamelia). “Darren Byfield here,” he wrote. “Fire some questions.” The first two he received were: “Why does it always rain on me?” and “Explain the theory of relativity, please.”
:D

The only other example I can find is of an obscure Belgian player, Stijn Stijnen...
On 20 February 2011 Stijnen was relegated to the B-team, after it became known that he and his family members had engaged in a malicious anonymous campaign on the club's message board, where they were bashing both the club management and fellow team members while simultaneously hailing Stijnen as the "club hero" in order to promote his profile. The following day, both parties agreed to dissolve the contract which bound the player to the club until 2015

I'm almost certain we've had a few players lurk on here, especially during the 'arry days.

Beece was widely held* to be a better footballer than Darren Bent: does he count?

*widely held ≈ constantly self-proclaimed: same difference, innit?

I definately would if I were a footballer, it'd be in my nature. Doubt I'd say who I was but I'd definately be in there

I'm sure they all have a look sometimes

Not on COYS they'll have all been banned

Imagine being banned from the forum by aggressively defending yourself against trolls

I'd be very surprised if some of the more actively online players didn't at least have a quick shufty on somewhere like here.

I’m sure we had ITK once telling us that what people were saying on here was getting back to Josh Onomah.

Did'nt the Mum of a youth player post on here for a while? I'm sure they left when their son was released good prospect around the John Bostock era. Quite certain his first name was Dean also believe was Parret but with Troy onboard thought might just be me repeating history.

I do remember the aussie guy on here name escapes me Bill Oddie or something he snagged the legendary Gary Mabbutt for Q&A and a number of us had the chance to put a question forward via Bill was brilliant, sorry maybe off topic just wish could see that thread I was proud my question was in the Q&A.

Ossie Ardiles, Graham Roberts still post on twitter ,

Paul Miller also did but in the aftermath of the CL final last year he got so much unjustified stick and abuse from Spurs idiots he just packed it in.

I was lurking myself at that point. What happened to make you think anyone lurking played for us?
Loads of users left SC once you stepped out of the lurking shadows and started actually posting; statistically you have to think that some of them would have been pro footballers. :p
