He was happy with Richarlison
Yes but he turned down Maddison not because he doesn't think he's a good player, but because it's not the right fit for his system. Now we can go back and forth on the fact (and I agree it is a fact) he is pretty inflexible and only wants to play one way, but we knew that prior to him coming. So what's the point of not getting players to fit that very inflexible system. Now you can say, "well because when he leaves we are stuck with players that only suit one system"(and I again I agree) so why appoint him in the first place if this is was ever a concern?
It all boils down to this. Win now managers aren't interested in changing what has seen success after success for over a decade. he got what he wanted in his first January window and we saw immediate success with both players, since then it's been very hit and miss(more miss than hit) as far as getting him what he's specifically asked for, and that's not much use to him. We did the same with Jose, and in fact go back as far as Jol and Harry and you'll find comments of them saying they asked for a certain player and got something completely different with very little consultation on the matter.
Might as well add Rodon to this list aswell.I do not like the football we play, but the biggest problem for me is that Levy keeps fecking around with elite managers he does not back 100%
Either you buy players the manager want or you hire a manager that is ok with playing the players the DOF brings in. What the F is the point in bringing in Spence and Danjuma when Conte REFUSE to play them out of spite?
This is not doing anyone any favors, you get a sour manager and fans and you waste money. Seriously what is the point! We are better of getting an up and coming manager then that is just happy to work with whatever Levy brings in
so tired of our identity crisis, wanting to be a big club, but still stuck in 2005 at the top
Just because the Rennes manager won’t play Rodon, does not make it Levy’s (or Conte’s) fault.Might as well add Rodon to this list aswell.
Said it before the Forest game but I don't think rushing him out ASAP is going to help us and we'd be wise to keep him until the end of the season. Ever since he arrived there's been speculation about his future and that includes the run-in last season in which we got great results.Agree with Sutton here. It's highly unusual for a big club to be in a position like this with their manager at this point in the season - no commitment from him means we should move on IMO. If he wanted to stay, he'd commit. I know he's been unwell but you just get the impression he thinks he's above us. Which he may well be, but that's not helping us.
Conte should leave Tottenham now - Sutton
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte should leave the club immediately if he does not want to commit his future to Spurs, says pundit Chris Sutton.www.bbc.co.uk
A good argument.Said it before the Forest game but I don't think rushing him out ASAP is going to help us and we'd be wise to keep him until the end of the season. Ever since he arrived there's been speculation about his future and that includes the run-in last season in which we got great results.
We're stupid for allowing ourselves to be in this situation and I think we'd be absolutely crazy to extend his contract even if we do go on a great run and finish top 4, but I still think he's our best bet of finishing the season strongly. To my mind 11 more games of Conte is preferable to a) Mason or b) rushing to appoint a new manager when it's so vitally important we get it right.
I think it only makes sense to sack him pre-summer if the players very obviously down tools and stop playing for him. And based on the way they approached the Forest game I don't think that's going to happen.
He doesn’t control his family, but he should certainly have moved out of his hotel. The real show of commitment from conte would be for his family to move over.
That one thing he didn't do, to me, stinks of his non committal attitude to the job at spurs.
Disagree strongly.Agree with Sutton here. Personal lives of club staff aren't really anyone's business and I'm not sure why fans add these things into the mix in terms of someone's suitability in their role.He doesn’t control his family, but he should certainly have moved out of his hotel.
Although I can't see him being here next season I do think this is a great point. There are times when I really enjoy the style of play when everything clicks but I think we are hamstrung by the players at our disposal most of the time. Specifically the lack quality in our backline.I like Conte. I don’t mind his style of football. When implemented properly it can be enjoyable to watch.
Get in a new keeper who can play the ball, and a couple of CBs who can move the ball, and I think we have a chance at doing very well.
Even as poor as we have been at times this season, we are still on to qualify for CL next season.
As I remember, Ramos wanted to get us back into europe and the league cup was the best route given we were in the relegation zone when he took over. That's why it was prioritised .You could argue Ramos was all about cups over top 4, he won the league cup and then the following season binned off the opening league games ready for the cups to come around
