I would take Given in a heartbeat, but he refuses to move, wants to keep his family settled I believe. Considering it's Newcastle he probably also gets enough in wages as he is one of their best players. However he is similar to Robinson with crosses, though Given rarely tries to collect them and his reactions are better than PR's. L'Ar5ena1 were after him back in 01/02 and for a while after that when he was arguably the best in the Prem, with a solid defence he'll have a lot of clean sheets. He'll even with their notorious bad defence he has kept a fair few! Also he is always excellent for Ireland.

How many players do we have that it is unrealistic to think we can currently improve upon?

Hutton King Woody Bale/Gilberto

Lennon JJ Bale

Berbo

That isn't bad when you think that behind them we have Keano, Hudd, Steed, O'hara. Chimbo, Lee, Kaboul, Bent.

I would say that at the most we need a top quality central midfield player but apart from that we are pretty much there. Ramos has shown that it is about the team collectively doing their jobs rather than having great players in all positions.

We could improve on Lennon, but he is young and should be given the chance to improve his distribution.

If Jenas continues his excellent form then he could be a top player, but it only takes a couple of games where he dissapears (which we know he is capable of) and everyone will be saying he's crap again.

I think Spurs as a club would find it extremely hard to purchase a better right winger than Aaron Lennon tbh.

Sometimes its hard to imagine what people expect of a "quality" GK--a clean sheet every game? Thousands of acrobatic saves and racking up assists with his distribution? I should think that Cerny is well on his way to earning a contract extension. Cerny is strikingly competent, which is a significant improvement over what we had before...

That is exactly where I am at where Cerny is concerned. But as SS57 said, they may not be extending his contract. But surely after recent events, you think that they (the management) would have a change of thought on this?

Cerny himself said he wasn't expecting to get a contract extension. However, he has since said he would love to stay, and it's up to the club.

http://www.4thegame.com/club/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/214123/cerny_hopes_for_spurs_stay.html

I don't know where they swiped that from, but it appears to be a genuine quote.

If we get the defence functioning properly as a unit, as appears to be the case, I'm not entirely convinced there's any all-fired rush to dash out and sign a new keeper. If Robinson could acquire the same kind of assurance in dealing with crosses as Cerny, there certainly wouldn't.

It seems that a lot of folks what to replace Steed as LM. Even though, he has been undoubtedly, our player of the season thus far.

I'd certainly keep Steed as a squad player - pushing for a start at RM, LM and in JJ's CM role. That's three positions he could cover, so he'd play a lot, and with injuries he'd be straight in. But if Gilberto is as good as we all hope, then two naturally left-footed players in Bale and Gilberto would be my first choice down the left flank.

Steed has worked his socks off and proved he's fit to wear the shirt. But he's not a natural LM. In fact his problem is that he's not a perfect fit anywhere in midfield in a 4-4-2. However, his workrate is fantastic, and he's scored a few goals and provided a few assists.

At Sevilla, Juande rotated his midfielders a lot to keep them at full fitness and ensure the team could always play a high tempo. Steed is ideal as part of our midfield squad, especially since he can play all the positions except for the holding role. So, I don't think anybody's suggesting we sell Steed. It's more a case of his not being a clear first choice for any of the midfield positions long term.

he has, but there are still better players for let wing out there (not knocking Steed, he has performed great this season) but i would say buy in a proper LM player (or play bale there) and move Steed into the center and give him a run along side JJ, both have shown they can put there foot in as well as get forward, could work well IMO

may be not realistic one, but every thing is possible with Juande, let's dream with: :)

Gordon/Amelia (£8m)
Hutton - Woodgate - Jarque (£8m) - Bale

Keane - David Villa (£16m)

Cerny
Gunter - Kaboul - King - Gilberto
Lennon - Huddlestone - Lucio Gonzalez (£10m) - O'Hara

Tainio, Boateng, Taraabt to complete 25 players in the squad for 3rd option in several positions. ( Tainio for RB or others, Huddlestone for CB & Boateng for CM, Taarabt for LM or to replace Pekhart in 4/5/1 system )

top 4 squad ?!

selling: £62m

Robinson : £5m
Chimbonda : as part of exchange with chelsea
Stalteri : Free
Dawson : £3.5m
Gardner : £2m

From the players you have quoted, I would say this was the best team:

--------Gordon----------

Hutton--King-W'gate--Bale

Lennon-Lucho- Poulsen-Cole

-------Villa-Keane-------

But, I can't imagine the front two hitting it off as well as Keane playing with Berbs.

I agree with you about King, but i put him for 2nd team due to his fitness and injury problems. So, I don't think Ramos will use him too much.

Keane/Villa, may be you're right about Keane/Berba could do better, but we still don't know, and I think it is very possible to see two short striker to shine under Ramos, we looked very simple under him and always looked for pace and space.

you can see Berba against Arsenal missed easy chance on one one because he struggled with his pace, it is also happened against Everton in added time. Berba is World Class striker but i doubt he can suit Ramos style when he gets his own team. He could be better for teams using 4/5/1 more or playing more of long balls like us under MJ.

Q8, have you turned into Bubble?

sorry, don't understand this one ?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

You cannot be serious...

you can fault me, but I have my opinion about this one.

look back at Ramos comments three or four days before the end of transfer window, Ramos said he can't grantee Berba staying and have some fears about losing him while this transfer window is open ( he said that enough times, no reasons other than to invite offers ! )

it was just only 3-4 days, and the romours about Berba were not too many like at the start ( Also Ferguson ruled out any signing window ) , Ramos looked he wants to get big money from Berba sale to get his own striker. Because IF Ramos wanted him to stay, he can ! ( Berba is totaly commited for us, at least until the end of this season, why he said that ? you don't know )

but for me, I think, Ramos doesn't want Berbatov because he likes pacy strikers, and will sell him at the end of the season. you will see.

Ramos' first choice striker at Sevilla was Fredi Kanoute - hardly a greyhound. Berba plays a very similar role in the Spurs team to that Kanoute plays for Sevilla - the only difference is that Dimitar is an even better player.

If Berba ends up being transferred, we'll replace him with a similar player, such as Kanoute. If we sign Villa, it's Keane's place that will be threatened.

The only time I remember Berba getting a rest under Juande is when we were 4-0 up against the goons. He's absolutely integral to Ramos' plans which is why he talked a lot about the club needing to show top class ambition. Selling Berba would be a sign that we don't have top class ambition (unless Dimi goes on strike and refuses to play, which I can't see happening).

It's all dependent on if Berbatov stays or goes and if Ledders is fit enough to play all the games or not.

If i work on the assumption that both stay then my team would be

Gordon GK

Hutton RB King CB Woodgate CB Bale LB

Lennon RW Jenas CM Gonzalez CM Capel LW

Berbatov CF Keane ST

If the both leave / cant play all the games then the team would be the same as above but with K J Huntelaar as CF and Jarque as CB.
