Is there a reason they can't do this in the PL? They do it in rugby as well don't they? Surely would at least stop the VAR officials hiding and forces some accountability and a bit of deliberation.
This is a good point. In rugby, when the ref and video ref are talking they are effectively justifying their decision to everyone watching. There is nowhere to hide and the decision chain is clear.

What's with the shitty comment? You've edited your post to include what I posted. Originally your post consisted of

I gave the full text of the article and a link to it.
I was half way through posting it trying to take out the most important parts - and I posted it before you even posted the link.

Edit It's not a shitty comment, it's making sure I wasn't going round the bend. Nailsy found both useful, why the drama?

I sincerely hope Dermot Gallagher looks at Joelinton's cheating to get the free kick in the first place this morning but have a funny feeling he won't.

For some reason its being completely overlooked.

I've got to admit that I'm not that upset by that decision. The ref got it wrong, but mistakes happen. As far as I'm aware the VAR team can't overrule him on that decision as it doesn't fall into one of the categories that they can review? It's the rules that mean that a deflected ball hit at you from inches away can result in a penalty that really annoy me.
I think VAR should be able to review to overturn it. That's what annoys me. But, ultimately if that isn't given then the penalty doesn't happen. That's why it annoys me. Two poor decisions in minutes.

Am I alone in thinking that Souness.s opinion that the rule on handball could be good for the game was stupid in the extreme .
What would his opinion have been if it was Liverpool on the end of that decision ? I can tell you he would have been in meltdown at the injustice . Sky have got rid of three of the " sky panel " thank god but getting rid of this dinosaur would be a positive move for the good of all football fans exerting Liverpool fans .

Did he say it could be good for the game?

He came across as an old man desperate not to look out of touch.

I think they ask the pundits to advocate either side of the debate, particularly in such a controversial incident as this to maximise the drama. Souness, a proper bastard, wouldn’t be bothered defending the decision but I doubt he believes it. He’s paid to wind us up and he does it well.

Some still are confused, and I agree with you it is stupid, and takes away from the game we enjoy.
Although I do wonder if the law 50 years ago was if it hit hand its an offence full stop and we all grew up with it we would see it as stupid.

The game would have evolved differently. Scoring via penalty after handball would be one of the highest percentage ways of scoring a goal and much of the game would be centered around manipulating defenders' arms away from their body and then smashing it at them hoping to catch their arm. And then defences would have to counteract it, perhaps by no longer defending inside the penalty area from free kicks to counter what happened yesterday. I think you'd have a lot of coordinated offside traps from set pieces to negate the threat of being caught with your arms away from your body in the box. In reality you can't afford to jump for a header with a striker in the box. It's suicidal. So certainly from free kicks and corners things would have evolved very differently.

Even now I'd imagine everyone's working on how to manufacture penalties, and how to prevent it. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we get up to 2 or 3 a game for handball. If you're a wide man, what's the better option, throw in a low percentage cross to a marked striker or dummy the full back a couple of times to throw him off balance and then try and hit his arm? Even the slightest flick will be given.

It will also lead to midfielders becoming more defensive and more targetman centre forwards.

Hence the reason why they don't do it being very obvious to me

I recommend we line up all the PGMOL at the top of a hill.

We'll push them all over by surprise, and anyone that puts their arms "in an unnatural position" will be instantly sacked without compensation.

I guarantee you that the problem will be resolved very quickly.

After such injustice I'm struggling to get over what happened. This place is normally good at seeing some positives. I badly need them right now.

It's just scandalous

Ironically the positives were that it was probably the best we've played as a team since the restart in June. There's plenty to be happy about, but the fact that it was stolen away from us completely nullifies that.

It's like going away for 2 weeks on a holiday of your dreams, having an amazing time, creating brilliant memories, and returning home to see our house has been ransacked by burglars.

You'll always associate the holiday with an incredibly upsetting experience, in the way that we'll always associate what was a really good team performance with having the points stolen from us by something which was completely out of our control.

We played far better than of late, and looked a lot more cohesive. There was also an obvious game plan that players looked comfortable with. A lot to be positive about. VAR and the stupid handball rule were the only concerning issues from yesterday.

having slept on it I think the only positive I can take from this is that probably we will benefit from these ridiculous laws at a few points this season and if there’s anyone to coach players to make the most of the chance of winning penalties then it’s Jose.

I hope players start to kick balls at players hands in the area on purpose to get penalties. Then the refs really will be put under the radar even more. If we are the ones to do it and benefit then even better. If you can’t beat them, join them.

I would say it's more like scooping the jackpot on the lottery, only for the government to contact you and advise you that a new law is that you need to pay 95% tax on it.
