I agree with this, but it's got to be a top down approach. It starts with the manager instilling confidence to the players, and this in turn will give the fans confidence so they will encourage the players all the time rather than the moaning that comes through to them now.

It's no wonder that good players are making those stupid errors that are costing us goals all the time this season.

Everybody including the tea-lady needs to be involved in instilling that winning mentality. But yes, you are right, it has to start from the top, with people who do not consider losing an option.

It really is a difficult situation to put your finger on.

Liverpool aren't known as a club of legends, everyone expects them to win the last 4 games and win the title, whereas if it was us in the same situation, everyone would expect us to cock it up.
Why that is I don't know, Liverpool have different owners, a different set of coaches, a different manager and a different set of players to the last glory days, so where's the link ?

We too have had new owners, managers, coaches and players, but the cock ups seem to just carry on, but where's the link ?

Liverpool have pedigree and a strong connection with its fans through tragedy mixed with success that has bonded deep within there psyche and like other clubs that win sliverware more frequently the remanence lingers around the corridors. Just like Juventus who were banished to the lower divison of ltalian leauge can come back and win the league it in there make up

Tottenham seem always to get to a postive point then sell there best players or change the manager our problem is we don't have the bulls (lets take the money and run)...it's like a bloody con trick that we've all just accepted, we'll always have suffient money our supporters are in footballing terms quite loyal in a prime location ie London so we will always pay up or someone will pay in.

The mentality has to change from the top and filter down our club motto is clear and our philosophy going back to Bill Nicholson is our foundation whenever we get into a mess has to be rekindled and stick to it but we dont stick to it.

“There was too much negativity about in the psyche of the supporters and that fed into the players. ...They were used to failure.” - Diego Forlan

Yep, nothing predicts the future better than the past.

Since 1991 we have:

- Failed to win a FA Cup semi-final in 6 attempts

- Seen end of season collapse at least once every three years.

- Finished below Le Arse 19 years running

- won 1 penalty shoot out in the past 7

We won't get rid of the negativity until we start winning tropies and I mean real trophies - FA Cup, PL....

There's something in this.

When we started to look like we had some promise (around the time of Jol), the atmosphere was fantastic, and seemed to get better and better. That fireworks night victory over Chelsea had the Lane rocking like I'd never seen.

As we improved, expectations raised, and the atmosphere became more tense. I'm pretty sure I went to one of the last great Lane atmospheres when we beat Newcastle 5-0 under Redknapp. Since then things have become increasingly tetchy.

As a club we have proved over and over again that we're legends. The fans expect it...and no doubt that feeds into the players as well. Difficult to say what might change it...because as long as we continue to sell our best players we'll continue to feel like little more than also-rans.
