I just read an article about Atlético Madrid and their transformation under Diego Simeone. And this paragraph, or rather, quote, pretty much sums up Tottenham's situation:

“There was too much negativity about in the psyche of the supporters and that fed into the players. ...They were used to failure.” - Diego Forlan

As a club, team and supporters, we're so accustomed to failure that it's gonna take much more than talent to transform this torrid enigma people tend to call Tottenham Hotspur.

Is Van Gaal the man to do it? He's a winner. That's for sure.

The shit atmosphere at whl is partly to blame in my opinion, who the hell would wanna play infront of fans who bitch and moan constantly and don't get behind the team as often as they should? I know people will say they should give us something to cheer about and put more effort in, the effort part I definitely agree with but we as fans still need to get behind the team, you go there to support the team not bloody criticise them constantly.

At the same time they players do need to pull their fingers out and get focussed from the first minute to the last.

Fair points and I'm more inclined to agree with the 2nd part of your post.

I remember Ginola making a poor beginning to his Spurs career.

He was playing terribly one game and came off with a shoulder injury that frankly looked faked. The fans weren't impressed.

After that he stepped up and gave us some of the most breathtaking displays I've seen in 25 years of being a Spurs fan.

The fans get behind the talented performers like Ginola, VDV, Bale, Berbatov and Keane even if they don't always put in a great work rate. They'll support hard working players like Freund if they see him giving his all.

Right now we have some players who don't have a huge amount of ability but also aren't putting in the work rate either.

No doubt WHL can be a pressure cooker. We need players who step up to the challenge and embrace the challenge.

In fairness to the fans I heard them still singing try to pick the players up at 3 -1 down yesterday.

I believe in this stuff, it goes well beyond sport and football. It doesn't help that we as a club have been screwed over so many times that we think ourselves the victims. Man U under SAF for example, partly because of their manager, partly getting a lot of decisions going their way, always believed they would win even though there were better teams in the league. The belief has gone under Moyes.

The players need to believe in themselves first, which takes a decent manager.

What about that time when Redknapp said that we'll win the league? I wasn't on this site when it happened, but what was the reaction like? I myself at the time thought he was spouting absolute nonsense.

This is not a blame game. The problem is the mentality of Tottenham as a whole. We don't have a winning mentality.
Yeah, the quote from Forlan though. Seems to want to put it all down on the negativity of the fans. i don't know much about Spanish football, but in England I think that the fans are now too far disassociated from the Players and the club to make much of a difference at all, let alone be to blame .

Just my onions.

Believe it or not, I think Tim Sherwood has that winning mentality but it looks like he won't be given time.

LVG can change that.

Once we start looking like a team with players that are willing to die for each other then it will translate to the fans. The home support will get behind a team that looks like they care and share the passion for the football club with the supporters.

I genuinely believe we only need to make a few of the right personnel changes to bring the feel good factor back to WHL.

LVG has a footballing philosophy which would benefit the club. I don't think that he will come to us personally. If there were available jobs for Man Utd or Arsenal he would probably go there. Not sure that Pochettino is the right fit for us either

Ah I see. It's our (the supporters) fault is it?

We are partly to blame, yes.

Anyone who doesn't think that our home support has been detrimental needs to look long and hard in the mirror. Most people do not realise how much the mindset of the supporters can change the outcome of games.
