Last season he got dropped into the deep end so probably had no time to try to adjust. Just play and try make up the goals we were lacking in the squad. Due to injuries

It would also be pretty crap to move to a new country and then get stuck at home during the pandemic. Add a baby to that, Bale coming back, and a couple injuries. It’s probably not been an easy year for the lad.

I was excited we landed him when we did. One of the few players I knew about and raved about in the eredivisie. Think he’ll come good just give him some time.

Given the stunning goal he scored against City on his debut for us, fingers crossed he is available to play a part this weekend

Sign a player, he does really well, then gets a bad injury, doesn’t seemingly recover 100%, then we play him and people complain about his performances........I’m sure we’ve read that before about our players!

I think he’s been pretty similar to when we signed him minus the goals. Here is a thought, if he has dropped a little bit, then maybe he’s one of the players missing the crowds?

It's always difficult making the transition from i.e. the Dutch league to Premier League for a young player. The tempo is faster and opposition team are pressing much harder than in the Dutch league where you get more room.
I'm sure he'll get better by time and learning the tempo in the Premier League.

What does he do?

He's not particularly fast or explosive. He does not possess a lethal shot. He doesn't create that many chances. He struggles to track back at times, particularly late in games.

I know Mourinho seems to prefer him in the team now, but for me he's in the "what does he do?" camp. With Lucas we get pace and flair; with Lamela we get creativity, flair and workrate; with Bale we get an experience and supreme technical qualities, and if he finds his rhythm, an unbelievable player. I don't understand what we're getting with Bergwijn.

I must be in the minority. He worked hard today and was pretty disciplined. Not a lot of space behind them today. He didn't show it today but I thinknhe has an eye for a pass and is a good crosser of the ball but was funnelled inside a lot.
Moura played in the week, Bale is nowhere near fit and would not do the defensive side that Mourinho demands and Lamela is injured so not a hard choice in my mind.

Yep, nothing special on the ball but he's very mature and tends to make decent decisions.

Add that to v diligent tracking back against both City and Chelsea and he's a good option when we're trying to stay disciplined vs the top teams.

So did Ndombele, and he's the guy who gets tired the quickest.

Yeah Bale might not be 100%, but that's why he needs more matches. If he gets going, he will be far more damaging in the final third than Bergwijn has been the last two weeks.

Seems a bit out of sorts lately. Probably struggling for a bit of match fitness but not really producing anything much right now.

Worked hard today , which I guess is what Jose wants most from this tough period.
Not sure Bale is gonna put in that kinda shift

Lamela would be a cert right now, unfortunately though he keeps getting injuries

Bale just isn't a trusted option at the moment. Granted if he gets going which is a big 'if' then Bale will obviously get in up front but he isn't match fit and if I am honest has done very little in the time he has been on the pitch. He has not featured against City or Chelsea for a reason.

Can't fault how hard he works hard for the team and is clearly trusted defensively but in our counters he is where the breakdown in quality is. Our two big moments he should have done better but how Im being critical is testament to the elevated quality in our team and the level of the other 10 on the pitch today.

Wasn’t sharp or lethal enough with his chances or his touches at times. Still, he’s a creative winger who is a great decision maker, and his passing is top quality. Thought he was more involved than son, and did brilliant defensively. Did what he was asked to do, and when he’s at his best, he will convert the chances he gets. I’ve seen it first hand. In and out of the team this season, combined with his fitness/injury, and it’s tough to get going. I’m glad Jose is giving him a run of games in the biggest games, it’s the best way for him to settle and build his fitness and confidence.

I must be in a minority because I think he really did a job today both defensively and holding up the ball for us in attack. I think that's also the reason why Mou chose to substitute him so late as he did really well and I personally felt that he was even slightly better out there today than Son (who wasn't bad by any stretch but wasn't allowed to do a lot)

It's funny, even tho we have brought in two new wingers, Lamela currently, is still my first team pick when fit.

he did a job but at some point it would be nice for him or one of our other attacking players to show a bit of quality in the final 3rd to take the pressure off kane and son.

Good couple of performances. Could have released Reguilon on the overlap instead of cutting inside a couple of times but good overall. Perfect for the big games because he offers that work rate but has a bit of quality on the ball too.

He did what he was instructed to do which is why he was on the pitch for 89mins.
