Some fans seem happy to treat some players like shit (i.e. Trippier), but as soon as a popular player looks out for himself he's labelled a traitor and hated forever.
The reality is Eriken's a decent guy who has done a good job at the club but is on the cusp of making the biggest move of his career and potentially fulfilling a lifelong dream. If he doesn't move to Madrid or Barca now he very likely never will, so it's hardly a surprise that he'd aim go on a free rather than re-signing with us. He's not doing a Koscielny and forcing a move - he's just seeing out the contract he signed with us. Is that so wrong?
Note how we all call Zaha an unambitious idiot for signing a contract extension when he wants CL football? If Eriksen wants the best chance of playing for Barca or Real why would he sign an extension with us? He's not being a shithead or a traitor - he's just looking out for his best interests.
If anyone's to blame it's Spurs. We should've given him an ultimatum last summer and forced him to make a decision one way or the other if we thought this was his plan.
Clearly we did and he verbally agreed. He even said with his own mouth publically if no other clubs come in, id be happy to sign a new contract or something along those lines.
