At their peak? This is a wild guess.

Hoddle 60m
Ardiles 35m
Waddle 35-40m
Villa 20m
Allen 35m (Clive)
Lineker 45m
Gazza 60m
Ginola 25-30m
Klinsmann 40m
Sheringham 25-30m
Paolo Tramezanni 300m + Messi and Ronaldo

If Gazza is 60m, then Hoddle should be at least 80m, possibly more.

It's players who score goals that attract the biggest fees these days.

Therefore, Jimmy Greaves would bring in the most in a transfer fee and he was sold and bought for record fees back in the day.

We never see Gazza at his peak due to a serious injury, he would have been even better. I don't want to get into an argument X is better than X, but Gazza was one of the best players in the world at the time. How about your list of values? It would be good to compare mate

ardiles 70 mil hoddle 90 mil gazza 90 mil lineker and klinsman 100 mil blanchflower and greaves combined fee would buy a new stadium
Lineker and Klinsmann would not have cost more than Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale, Hoddle and Gascoigne. The highest fees in history have been reserved for those playing slightly behind the out-and-out striker, those with a creative flair.

By the same token, Hoddle never realized his full potential while at Spurs and was also curtailed by injuries after moving to Monaco.
Hoddle had a better shot and a much more passing range than Gazza, and anyone who has seen both of them would rate Hoddle higher.

After his 49-goal season surely we could have got a Falcao-esque price for Allen?

Graves 100m. Almost a goal a game internationally says it all.

Agree, pure goalscorers would be the next level. Comparable to Falcao, Torres, Aguero who have gone for between 35-50mil.

Im 22 so never really saw these teams/players but that Hoddle compilation is incredible Ive always heard and seen snippets here and there now I know what the hypes about. Same with the clip from the 60s beautiful footie ahead of its time.
Unsure about Hoddle though as Midfielders never command that higher fee generally. Modric/Moutinho in these current times went for between 30-40, only other CM/AM I can think of that went for big money was Kaka and he was a Ballon D'or winner. While Hoddle was class I cant imagine him going for more than 45m even if an Oil rich club in todays times went in for him

In todays money......

Greaves...........goal poacher extraordinaire. Falcao of his era £60m
Gazza..............midfield genius and box to box tyro £90m
Ardiles.............the Modric, Fabregas, Alonso of his day £40m
Villa.................classy attacking MF £20-25m
Dave Mackay........what can you say? Best DM of his era £60-70m
Pat Jennings.........superb shot stopper £25m
Martin Chivers...........complete CF £70m
Glen Hoddle............in a class of his own £100m
Chris Waddle...........winger with speed and attacking guile £60m

Im sorry but Dave Mackay, my understanding a DM, at 60/70mil? Really. He may be one of Spurs greatest players but no way would a DM go for that money. Alex Witsel and Michael Essien are the most expensive in those positions and they both only went for £34m and that was to clubs who were loaded. I understand that he was considerably better than them, but goals are what bring high fees.
Makele who arguably defined the role in recent times was a key player in the success of both Real Madrid and Chelsea with numerous honours and only went for 16m in 2003 you could argue that would double over 10years and still nowhere near 60m

less than Bale

Hoddle was never given enough England caps, how he only got 53 caps was robbery.

he scored 88 goals for Spurs, and everyone was special, even if he took a penalty. he makes Bales free-kicks look plain, he was just GOD/MAGIC - another born King of White Hart Lane.

yes different eras, and in them days the fitness levels where so different, but so where the pitches and the balls. if half of todays footballers played with the ball in Hoddles day, the would suffer broken metertasles regular.

if Bale is worth 80m today, id say Hoddle would be around 90m. Bale is great, but Hoddle was magic with both feet.
