Lol, we could probably get £60 million off Chelsea for Clive Allen, coming off his 49 goals season...

Lineker would be worth crazy money too- consistent top goal scorer wherever he played.
He'd still be treated like Darren Bent was though.
I can hear the fan behind me now "Yeah so he's scored 30 goals this season, but what else does he do?"

I wonder how Defoe would have done with no offside rule

Gazza had the lot and would have competed at the very top, he was one of the best in the world at the time, his worth now would have rivalled Bales, it's hard to put a figure on some of our players though. Waddle would have been right up there but not quite as much.

Greaves or Lineker in their prime would be like RVP, we would have been looking at 30-50 million for sales.

Some of our defender and midfielders would probably have smashed transfer records as well for their positions.

Bale does have something though that I have never seen in a Spurs shirt, the closest for me was Gazza who was magnificent, that magic. The likes of Hoddle, Waddle etc were a class act and among the greats of this club but I think if we manage somehow to keep this lad for a few more years he may well go down as the greatest entertainer ever to play for spurs.

Another season like the last and someone may pay and beat the world transfer record! And I never thought I would see that happen, tbh I thought that would be tht.

If the 1961 double team were all 26 years old now, Levy and Joe Lewis could retire and buy their own private planets in today's transfer market.

Bill Brown: 16 million
Peter Baker: 12 million
Ron Henry: 16 million
Danny Blanchflower: 40 million
Maurice Norman: 35 million
Dave Mackay: 60 million
Cliff Jones: 40 million
Bobby Smith: 40 million
John White: 40 million
Les Allen: 30 million
Terry Dyson: 20 million

So you think hoddle woild be worth 80 mil?

Hoddle was way ahead of his time with his creative, technical play.

With today's Monopoly money being thrown around I'd say someone would easily cough up 60-70 million for him.

Some examples of why Hoddle is the best Spurs player I have ever seen.

I feel both proud and privileged to have been able to see him play. I was a kid watching at the Lane during the 80s.

For some of the younger Spurs fans on here who wonder what all the fuss is/was about with the Spurs team of the 60s, watch this:

You'll see a great example of the genius of Jimmy Greaves as well:

My father in law (a gooner for my sins) told me they were the best and most exciting team he ever saw play live. From an arsenal fan that was one hell of a compliment :)

I love the way that Gilzean just stands and applauds the 3rd.

It's very slow, but you can certainly see modern football developing in that clip.

Jimmy Greaves would be a what? 40 - 45 goals a season man in all competitions (assuming Tottenham played, say 53 - 58 games a season).

Maybe someone would correct me and make that tally higher...?

If he WERE that, then he'd be looking at more money than any premiership player has gone for.

Watched this and went straight to a video of Le Tissier. So many similarities between the 2 it's unreal. If only our move for him had gone through. :(

We've had many many stars over the years, its a shame many of them have been isolated stand out performers and not part of a grand team.

how much would our stars of yesteryear be worth on todays market? Hoddle, Ardiles, Waddle, Villa, Allen, Lineker, Gazza, Ginola etc?

At their peak? This is a wild guess.

Hoddle 60m
Ardiles 35m
Waddle 35-40m
Villa 20m
Greaves 65m?
Allen 35m (Clive)
Lineker 45m
Gazza 60m
Ginola 25-30m
Klinsmann 40m
Sheringham 25-30m
Paolo Tramezanni 300m + Messi and Ronaldo
