It was winks. He was talking about his ambition to win his first team place back after a Europa league game during the post match interview. The usually stuff about being professional. Then he was blabbering to the press in secret about stuff behind closed doors. He got caught doing so!
Did he? How and by who?

AFAIK there has only been 1 person who has reported this.

Can you elaborate?

If it is just one person saying it, I think this narrative needs to be debunked.

It's a shame we can't ask questions.

I think Winks only attribute is in the middle third of the pitch when he squirrels between players with that little burst of acceleration and then finds a pass. When forced to pass quickly he is good. When he has time on the ball he is terrible (he had a shot last night that was comical - although the ref had already blown for an offside I think. He offers very little in our defensive third or the offensive third.

We've been woeful for years! Does that mean that we sell everybody except son (who can go weeks being woeful) and kane? If we sold every player that the denizens of SC wanted gone we wouldn't have any players left!
I say yes, we should get rid of every player that is not good enough for us. And yes there is a lot of them here! Winks is one of them.

I guess it's everyone prerogative to take some ITKs word as gospel.

And we're also free to disregard it completely.

I always felt Jose completely miss used winks. He is not a world beater at either end of the field but he is excellent at being the water carrier in a midfield 3 and setting the tempo linking the deeper and further forward player in the 3 using quick movement and a good first touch etc. Jose constantly played him as the deepest player and had hojbjerg pushing forward more which to be honest only served to highlight the floors in winks game which there are many. I genuinely feel that as much as we can do better there is still a useful player in winks under Nuno in games where we want to control the possession more.

That won’t be a popular view on here because many seem to see Winks as the devil incarnate, but he’s a homegrown player with premier league experience. Like you say, he’s not a world beater, but he isn’t anywhere near as bad as he’s made out to be. As a squad player he’s fine.

We are still punting him out then. If he and sissoko are going we must be bringing couple of midfielders in.
The article doesn't put a date on when the offer was made and turned down. It's a general article on Leeds entire summer business. Could have been yesterday. Could have been 2 months ago.

Regardless of the opposition, he was better last night. Bit more purpose about him. Doesn't change my view that he needs to go though. Hojbjerg, Skipp, Dele, Lo Celso ahead of him and with Sissoko looking like he is going and also possibly Ndombele, we'll probably look to bring another midfielder in which will push Winks further back.

If Ndombele gets priced out of a move and doesn't get a loan move either, he'll probably be ahead of Winks to provided he gets his head down and really gets on with it.

You can't punish someone for refusing to leave. No matter how bad he is, he's perfectly entitled to see out his contract, whether you like it or not.

the same people saying this (punishing him / let him rot) were probably screaming about Kane having a contract he should honour

It works both ways

Especially this season with Europa Conference League participation. I don't mind Winks but think he is below the level we require. But he's better than the players in the ECL.

Winks and others playing around the same level can get us to the final and free up our first team players to concentrate on the league. It's part of why I want Traore. He'll run rings round players at that level.

I want us to win the ECL but not at the expense of league performance.

He did well for the goal but I don’t remember anything else of note during the game. Don’t let last nights game against lower level opposition cloud your judgment on him thinking he’s going to come good. He’s been poor for years and 1 decent bit of play is not going to change my mind about him. He needs to go and be upgraded if possible.

Why are people being accused of having an agenda, or being filled with bile when they've just pointed out that he's been shit for a couple of seasons?

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware that he's been called some derogatory things over the last 6 months or so. But that hasn't come from every member who's pointed out he's been shit, or offered practically nothing when he's been given time on the pitch.

He did provide practically nothing, and he was shit. The personal stuff is/was perhaps a step too far, but anyone who's said he was shit was just saying what they've seen.

That's on him, and people on a forum about him/his club are perfectly within their rights to point that out.

Much better last night. Fair play to the lad.

People have agendas. Agents have agendas.

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but there’s lots of rumours around the club about it being a different person entirely! I’m not commenting who as it has the exact same result as this rumour.

Personal opinion is that we judge winks on how he performs and what we see ourselves, and don’t listen to closely to rumours.

Sage words.

I don't know what it was but he looked comfortable for the first time in ages yesterday, really controlling the tempo of the game.

I suspect he's a niche player; ask him to play double pivot with sissoko or peh and he drowns; ask him to control posession with runners either side and we feel calmly dominant as we did yesterday. When he is comfortable so are the team.

You wouldn't build a team around him but he's a good option if controlling posession is the best way to beat a team.

Did well last night. And I do like a player that actually wants to stay and fight for a place rather than just down tools when the going gets tough.
