There are also qualifiers in october and november. They'd be fairly useless until xmas. I'd tell them to return in December, with as much wage loss as possible, transfer list Lo Celso and pull the plug on Romero's buy option.
I'd tell them to clean everyone's boots, make them train bottomless for a week, and give them a wet willy.

In a somewhat positive apparently they've reached a compromise where they will be able to stay at the Spurs Lodge and be able to train on private pitches during their quarantine

"A compromise with the players appears to have been struck but the clubs will be hoping that some exemption can be sought from the government, at the least to isolate in an environment more controllable by the club - such as The Lodge for Spurs."

I think the compromise is the players returning early after the second game, the article says that the clubs are hopeful that the government allows an exemption not that they've got one. At the moment I think the players will still have to stay in their hotel room for 10 days and not at the Spurs Lodge making it pretty impossible to train.

As much as I welcome the benefit to Spurs it would have been interesting seeing the modern pampered football player staying in a standard no frills / luxuries hotel room for 10 days - might be reluctant to go again

Look like he will be if he hasn’t gone already.

Guess we’re going to be rotating Dier, Rodon, Davies, Tanganga and Paskotsi at CB for a few weeks.

If so why has the focus been on the 2 Argentinian lads who are not in the starting 11 and not on Sanchez who is?

Hopefully it gives Rodin a chance because I still really rate him.

Unfortunately it still leaves Dier in the side who I do not rate whatsoever.

Makes sense.

I was thinking about this earlier. Pulisic may have to spend the 10 days in the US next month since they have road games to currently red listed countries. Makes a lot more sense then 10 days in the hotel.

Cant help but feel a little disappointed with both Romero and GLC here. Yes i get that playing for your national team is the pinnacle but we've spent big money on them and in GLC's case he hasnt done anything remotely worthy of justifying the outlay. I would have hoped that both would be busting a gut to get in and stay in Nuno's first team.

Nuno allowed Kane to have extended quarantine holiday without sanction?

That’s plainly not true…
Maybe my wording wasn't clear, but Kane had no sanction for not returning on time/ having to quarantine because of the country he had chosen to visit. That is pretty factual.

But for these WC qualifiers, the tone has changed from the earlier press conference - from a 'they've been told!', to ~ how we can mitigate to minimise their time away.
I doubt the players will be fined, but I'd love it if all 3 of them had trouble getting back into the 11.

For Lo Celco that would be bad news as he's struggled from the start, and for all his international good form, he is sort of turning into dead wood around here.
And Sanchez too was already in the last chance saloon, at the beginning of the season.
There could well be quite severe longer term consequences for these 2.

Can someone explain to me what going to this Croatian island does? Does it cut down the 10 day quarantine if they return from there instead?

They need to be 10 days removed from being in a red list country. So they can spend those 10 days watching porn in a London hotel room and losing weeks of fitness or spend the 10 days in Croatia and actually train.

I wasn't sure if Croatia is red listed or not that's why I asked. If that's the case they may as well come quarantine at the hotel at the training centre, no?

Apparently that wasn't allowed. You must stay in one of the government designated hotels and not leave your room.

Standard for expats returning for the summer to do this. My family stayed in Cyprus for an eleven nights all inclusive then isolated again when they arrived here. All to avoid the government hotels in the uk, which is just a money making rip off by the way.

I don't think we should ever get in the way of players playing for their country and if we do it should only be for legitimate fitness or injury concerns. But this will significantly weaken us at very busy periods and will have an effect on our progress. This really concerns me and I can honestly say I really don't see Cuti or Gio starting much for us before November. Not a good situation. The international calendar needs to be looked at carefully with regards to travelling at the moment and perhaps needs reviewing certainly for the foreseeable future. I metioned having a mid and end season international break for teams to play their qualifiers over a three to four week period much like a mini tournament over there summer and Is till think that maybe the mosts sustainable and sensible way of progressing.
