Falling in Love with the Potential ...of Spurs.

Where we are and where we want to be...

Some love Tottenham Hotspur because of their (somewhat) glorious history, whilst some because of what Spurs could be... We fall in love with the potential, and not where we are now. ...because "now" kind of sucks big time.

The last couple of seasons have taken us several of steps backwards. I'm not talking about the horrifying 90's or the dire (pre-Jol) 00's, but backwards since the reign of 'arry.

Soo... My question to you: do you have a timeframe, a deadline to where you feel enough is enough? Or will you support the team till the very end?

I used to enjoy the experience of going to Tottenham, having a beer, having a sing song taking the piss out of the opposition and oye some decent football/result would be happening. Unfortunately, the whl experience these days is shite and I cant even fall back on the football being great. Ill always support Tottenham as I am 4th generation fan in my family, but can I see myself going to the lane in 10 years time, the way things are heading?? Hmm not sure.

I have supported spurs since the late 70s and will support them till the day I die. However....I was dangerously close to changing channels on the TV last night after about hour of that match. Made my eyes bleed.

My timeframe is a trophy of some description next season, Champions in the 2016-17 season followed by Champions League success the following season

If this doesn't happen I'm off to support Manchester City

Absolutely fed up waiting for my club to win the league. I've been going to WHL religiously since 1975 and bar that Season where we ran Everton close for most of the season, bugger all real chance of lifting the ultimate prize

If only my grand father had been a gooner I wouldn't have gone through all this disappointment

To be honest (and serious) who the fuck knows what's going to happen but based on history I can make a pretty well informed guess

At the end of the day if your a proper football supporter and it's in your blood then your clubs your club until the end, no matter what. In the future I may not go as regularly as I once did but I could never love another.

I've always liked the under dog tag and for me the pinnacle as a spurs fan was probably beating utd at Old trafford that first year. (It did coincide with my daughter being born and also beating Chelsea in the Carling Cup final at Wembley) My favourite manager was Martin Jol , he got us back into Europe and he was just a great guy all round. In that era we looked at success differently and consequently people were just happier in general. The worst thing about being a spurs fan at the moment is sense of entitlement so many people have on here and the impatience to not give anything or anyone a chance.

People throw worst defender/midfielder/forward tags at everyone and act like spoilt brats. I would happily support the club all the way to the fourth tier if it got rid of the spoilt brat fan attitude. When I was a season ticket holder I was lucky to sit with 90% of the same people week in and out that had similar opinions. When the odd idiot got a seat near by and moaned and slagged off the players he was scorned at. When I go now all I hear is moaning and whinging and slagging off.

Some time and empathy for the manager would be nice and a reality check and loss of the sense of entitlement would leave me happ again.

Meh. I'll never, ever stop supporting, following and talk about Spurs. But I don't really care much anymore.

I don't have any timeframes, I just don't really feel like I connect with anyone or anything about the club anymore, except the badge and sometimes, the fans.

Going to WHL is a shite experience mostly these days, and this might end up being the first season where I've not been to a game since I started being able to afford tickets years ago. I've seen a few games coming up, thought to myself that I'd go and ask my usual companions if they're interested, then before I've even really clicked on the seats I've realised that I just don't really want to go.

Things will change, they always do. But this period of time is just one where Spurs as a whole is taking a backseat in my life, and pretty much my only involvement with the club is watching games on tv and chatting about stuff on SC. Other than that I barely think about it.

Psssh If you have a time frame or demands for your club to achieve or else you'll stop supporting them I'd kindly ask you to fuck off and just support someone else now

I don't care if we're in the Champions League or League one I would support the club the same regardless

Obviously I want success for the club and I will moan and throw my toys out my pram when things aren't going how I want them too but next match I will be back supporting full of the same blind optimism that made me think every next year would be the year through out the 90s in spite of there being no reason to believe it would be

I go to more away games than home games for the above reasons. It used to be a good day out, beers, singing, banter with the opposition fans etc... Now it's just full of moany fucks that groan at Mason for unsuccessfully attempting a 25 yard through ball or boo players like Rose because nothing he does will ever be good enough for them.

I actually feel embarrassed when I see some of the comments on the Spurs FB/twitter pages from supposedly our own fans. I'd rather Spurs be shit and we have some memorable piss ups that you can talk about 5 years later than be on the verge of success and have fans that expect us to win every game 6-0.

It’s a funny one, my interest has waned the last couple of years. The Mind the Gap season (not losing ground to Arsenal so much but Chelsea sneaking in to the CL) was perhaps the catalyst that punctured some of my passion for football and Spurs. I’ve still been to probably 50 odd Spurs games since then, and love other parts of football- I go to a few lower league games and loved the WC.

I just find with the cost of going to Spurs together with the more sterile atmosphere and the fact that there are other things I would prefer to spend my money and time on, it’s taken a backseat to where it used it be- one of the most important things in my life.

Everton was my last game and I loved that, the atmosphere was trific as was the performance by and large- but that seems to have been the exception rather than the rule lately. I gave up my ST last year and don't regret it.

Somebody with over 12 thousand posts on a spurs forum does not strike me as somebody who barely thinks about spurs! I think a lot of fans are in this default mode of saying to people (usually gooners) that they've lost interest in football in general and although to some extent I think that's true, deep down most of us care way too much about whats happening at our club otherwise we wouldn't be on here most hours of every day!

We can all only hope that some day soon, our day will come again or at least we show some signs that we are turning a corner.

I support the team always but not Levy and ENIC, their time is up and someone else's time is now.
I agree with this 100%. However, why is it that on this forum whenever anyone questions or speaks out against Levy/ENIC they get multiple spam ratings. Whats the big Levy/ENIC love in all about.? Why do so many see it necessary to compare their tenureship with the miserable 90`s. Why not compare our current state of affairs with the flare teams of the recent past. It`s not too long ago we had the likes of Lineker, Gascoigne and Waddle. Or Ardiles, Villa and Hoddle. How about Hero`s such as Klinsmann, or the quality of Ginola. Not to mention the glory glory days of the 60`s. Blanchflower, Mackay, Jimmy Greaves and so on. Why must we compare ENIC to the few years immediately preceeding them. Why do we have to compare Levy with Sugar. Let us not forget that ENIC came in at a great time for them. They took over a great club for whom the only way was up. Levy took control on the eve of an unprecedented windfall of billions dished out to Premier league clubs through the sky tv bonanza and the worldwide marketing success of the Barclays Premier League. Yet, despite this, our progress on and off the pitch has been hugely underwhelming. New stadium !!! Where ? More trophies !! When ? Hero`s on the pitch !! Who? Where are the likes of Greavesie, Lineker, Klinsmann, Ardiles and Gazza. Instead of challenging Arsenal, we`re falling behind West Ham. ENIC have failed, Levy has failed. To suggest otherwise is complete nonsense.

Because they speak the truth and some can't handle the truth or don't want to hear it, it's painful to hear that we won one trophy in 14 years, the same trophy haul as Sugar, so they neg rep the fuck out of someone in the hope they will just quieten down and comply with the masses.

But the pity is nobody is going to get me to quieten down and comply by giving spam ratings or any other neg ratings because I don't give a damn about ratings.

What's the big Levy/ENIC love about? No idea it's like something out of invasion of the body snatchers

I think that even if you're not willing to walk away, you have to pretend like you are. If not, your support gets taken advantage of and you still pay the same prices to watch a club that is badly run and plays shit football. Of course, this is what the actual situation is at the moment. But the only thing I can see scaring Levy and Co into acting differently is the thought that supporters will stop coming to matches, stop buying shirts (even the shirts have been shit as well recently), and stop supporting the club financially. That's really our only check and balance against ineptitude.

No it's because of you trying to derail every fucking thread and turn it into a Levy discussion. Some good threads asking some good questions get turned into yet another Levy is a ****/Levy isn't a **** debate and it's to the detriment of the forum.

No it's not. You even invited me to comment about Levy the other day.
