@rossdapep didn’t you say something about United always getting liked to players in a certain way? Maybe you’re on to something regarding van de beek.

Well they tend to get linked to players far and wide and it then turns out they have no interest at all.

Before we signed Gedson, the media were claiming, both here in Portugal and UK, that he was on his way to sign for United.

Yet the United ITK wasn't saying anything and knew nothing of this. But this isn't an isolated thing with United, it happens at least 3 or 4 times per summer.

Yet when they do actually sign a player it's always something that rumbles on because Woodward is dreadful at negotiating. Because of this the selling club announce that United's bid is unsatisfactory (like Dortmund have just done) or the media get wind of it. The same thing happened with Maguire, Bruno, Wan Bissaka and to an extent James.

So unless Woodward has completely changed tact and gone in with a firm offer discreetly, I have my suspicions.

What may have happened, is that United have held an interest for some time and that part is true but another club has made a move and because he's pulled out of the squad everyone just assumes it's them. Or perhaps we started getting serious and United, not wanting to miss out this time, and under pressure, decided to just go in with what Ajax would be happy with.

Who knows. But it's true United fans are really frustrated as they get linked to dozens but actually sign none of them.

usually I’d agree with you but they so nailed on to get him here. All news coming out of Holland has him as going there. Fee still to be agreed though so that’s the bit that will drag on unless Woodward just pays up off the bat rather than in a month‘s time.

Still talking to them according to Herc so not over yet. Agree it looks highly likely he will join UTD but if they want Sess on loan and we can shift Foyth (likely) and Aurier, that would free up the funds for this deal.
