Talkshite are now reporting that Celtic will be seeded for the draw as well.

How on Earth in this day and age along with all the fortunes the Champions League brings can any club manage to fuck up and field ineligible players?!

Would Legia have been kicked out if he hadn't come on, on the basis that he was still named on the the teamsheet??

I think this is pretty silly, and personally I'd be embarrassed if my club got through in this way. This guy came on for two minutes and had no effect on Celtic getting absolutely tonked over two games.

you shouldnt be making a mistake like this but its not as simple as that by the sounds of it. He was banned for 3 games, missed the first leg that they thought was the 3rd. They played in the previous round which would have been the first 2 games but he wasnt officially registered in the squad for those two so his ban didnt start until this round where they registered him thinking he would be able to play in the second leg.

Incredibly lucky, wouldnt be surprised if this isnt the end of this.

Our U21's withdrew from the first edition of the NextGen for fielding an ineligible player so this sort of thing is not unheard of.

I would think the answer is yes.

Also just to repeat that Legia weren't kick out of the competition but Celtic were given a 3-0 walkover victory for the second leg which meant Celtic went through on away goals.

If that's the case, I can't see how he was ineligible.

To serve the ban the player in question would have to be registered in Legia's CL squad. For the first 2 games in the early qualifying round the player wasn't registered so those 2 games can't count toward his 3 game ban.

It's not the players fault. The fault lies with the club secretary (or whoever manages squad registration for Legia.)

I'ts not his fault but he isn't stupid. He knew we received a red card in his previous match. He needs to get some of the blame

This sounds proper fishy. How much would group qualification cost on the black market?

Rules are rules.

I would ban legia for life. Disgusting cheaters.

It was last season and he was given a 3 game ban. Legia before playing Celtic had already played 2 qualifying games which they incorrectly thought counted towards that ban. The player wasn't listed in the match day squad for the first Celtic game so everyone at Legia incorrectly thought he had served his 3 game ban.

I can't see how this is the players fault in any way.

From the BBC:

However, in 2010, Uefa fined Debrecen £15,000 but rejected a protest from opponents Litex Lovech, who wanted the Hungarian side kicked out of the tournament for fielding an ineligible player.

Debrecen argued that they fielded Peter Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when they were leading 4-1 on aggregate.

Uefa ruled that Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favour".

Where is the consistency?

The rules may have been tightened up as a result of this

No idea (Legia I would guess) but imagine if Legia Warsaw had scored the pens in the first leg it wouldn't have mattered.

Yeah, apparently Legia take Celtic's place in the EL. Basically says 'break the rules and you're not allowed in the CL, but you can still be in the EL.' Ludogrets would have been seeded for the CL draw, but now they aren't due to Celtic's co-efficient. This whole thing is just showing how much of a farcical operation UEFA is.
