Regarding the individuals mistakes, we can't blame Hugo, he's been outstanding so far. Walker is getting better and better recently and Defoe has been good before his injury (and in the last 2 games). The one I'm starting to worry about is Benny, really, he isn't at his normal level this year. I start to understand the ones who wants a new LB.

Benny looked totally fedup from the kick off - he looked really down.

Sad to see - I'm a big fan.......

So our manager should make a rapid and rash decision to bench players because they make rapid and rash decisions?

I don't agree about starting a youngster up front against Inter. People seem to think that just "throwing some youngsters in" will instantly reveal the next wonderkid. It almost never does. Both of our lead strikers have been poor for stretches this season, but I'm pretty sure that Kane/Obika/whoever would have broken through if they were performing well enough in training.
I hope that he's been thinking about it for some time. It's not a new set of problems.
Vertonghen cam play left back and the other Kyle right. They may do so anyway.
Kane is at Leicester and Obika is at Charlton but Coulthirst was on the bench presumably for a reason on Sunday.
Not throwing one on will certainly not discover anything.
Its not knee jerk it's called contingency planning to cope with a situation
where our strikers are not performing and our full backs threw three points away on Sunday.

I personally agree that both our full back positions are the weakest links in our team for various reasons, but I don't agree that a player should get benched after having a bad game. It doesn't send a very supportive message to our players.

And what happens if Naughton has a bad game against Inter? Do we bench him and bring Walker back? Bench them both and use Livermore at RB? It's just not workable. Walker has shown a lot of improvement recently after a pretty dodgy start to the season. IMO his weakness is in his head rather than his legs, so dropping him after a bad back-pass is hardly going to help.

AVB gets to see what the players do in training throughout the week and he also has a better feel for our team spirit than any of us here. I'm sure he has thought about the younger players and has decided they won't produce the goods.

It's all well and good saying player X is shit after the game, but AVB has to make these decisions before the game. After Defoe came on against Inter everybody here said that he looked sharp and should definitely start against Liverpool. He was then apparently poor against Liverpool (I didn't see the game myself) and people say he should be dropped. How can the manager win in that scenario?

What both of your comments are really leading to is that we just lack any depth in strikers....something everyone knows, but we have got by without them so far. Really concerned here

Agree with the OP, we were the better team and we gave it away, to many moaning minnies on what apart from a couple of mistakes was a well played game.

We never had more than a 1 goal lead, so how could we have bossed it?

Liverpool were always in the game. We clawed back to 1-1, then had a good spell for 15 minutes after half time . At 2-2 we gave Liverpool incentive and from then on they were better.
Is this a wind up?
