I think you're forgetting that we had at leats 3 one-on-ones. It wasn't as one sided as the stats suggest. It was also very clear that JM identified their high line as their biggest weakness and wanted to exploit it. It worked on several occassions.I've just watched the whole game without knowing the score. Frankly I wish I hadn't.
I would've liked us to put pressure on the ball when they had it and to track runners. In fact, it would have been nice if we had bothered to do either one of those things instead of alternating between staying static in a shape that Bayern moved around and through at will, or milling around in a fairly confused state.
A couple of things have confused me. The BBC report says that Sessegnon was our best player and that he did himself no harm in competing for a first team place. Perhaps they were confusing him with Alphonso Davies, Bayern's 19-year-old who was impressive throughout in both defence and attack. As far as I could see, Sessegnon did a couple of nice touches and scored a good goal, but was left chasing shadows and lost every challenge with a Bayern player. Still, it's early days for him.
The other thing that I find confusing is our (well, Gazzaniga's) continual floating of high balls towards a striker six inches shorter than his marker with nobody near to pick up any second ball. We may as well have just lobbed it gently to Thiago to start another Bayern attack as that was what invariably happened.
If anything, that was worse than the display in the 7-2. True, we caved in then while we didn't here (although if it wasn't for Gazzaniga and the woodwork they could easily have had double figures), but at least then we played fairly well for a while. Today was just embarrassing. I know we left four at home (two of whom are actually good) and we have six injured, but the team that played was good enough to compete; and they just didn't. Let's hope for an improvement before the next round.
a very bad preseason friendly... near mid season and some players are unfit and others simply 'crap'.This felt more like a preseason friendly
We got outplayed by Bayern. Not a good game at all. Mourinho wanted to test the other players. Doing so against a team like Bayern is not good.
Not in here it didn'tThis felt more like a preseason friendly
Sadly, he didn't. He knackered more than half of the first team needlessly in a meaningless game just to save his own image from a negative scoreline, he didn't give an opportunity to so many 2nd string/youth players desperate to get a look in, and still achieved a shit result in the end and now more than half the team is knackered for the must win v Wolves on Sunday ? Who for sure won't be stupid enough to play any 1st teamers our tonight in their Europa dead rubberWe got outplayed by Bayern. Not a good game at all. Mourinho wanted to test the other players. Knackered is saying much. The tempo really wasn't all that for us. And they didn't need to travel to Kazahstan did they?Sadly, he didn't. Low and hard shots that are close to him, he's not agile enough to stop them...Hugo throws out a leg and stops most of them
What a load of bollocks.Sadly, he didn't. We had a pre season friendly with them and as a result we won the Audi Cup at their place. This felt more like a preseason friendly
Not saying last night meant that Lo Celso won't become a great player for us but can't say he looked remotely "tasty on this occasionAbsolutely nothing game. Nothing really learned from it beyond Sessegnon being a talent and Celso seeming tasty.
As I said if he’d weakened it anymore we’d have lost 7+ again wouldn’t been awful for morale.Let's see how the 6 from the first team that played needlessly tonight perform against Wolves on Sunday and we'll talk again then.
Surely a midweek match in Germany isn't going to knacker half the players for a game v Wolves on the Sunday? Of the players who have been regular starters recently only Alderweireld, Sissoko and Gazzaniga played the full 90 mins.Sadly, he didn't.
