Skipp hasnt had any start at all, and also playing in a dead rubber where we're playing a 2nd string. But yet he has managed to play really well

So where's the logic on Lo Celso needing more gametime to justify his poor game?
Possibly the whole settling in a new country, new club, new league, team mates, style of football and all that stuff. I'm not saying it's the be all and end all but if you're looking for something to poo-poo (and I suspect you might) then there it is. For a few people, that'd maybe be a reason to cut some slack.

Don't think he had much choice to be honest. Maybe he could have dropped Le Celso and played Skipp in there but I don't see any other real options.

I think it demonstrates clearly we need another striker who can hold the ball up.
Yea have to say I agree mate, it was a disaster but his hand was forced.
Was ndombele injured /not fit again? There’s Something odd going on with him :( game as he is the CM we need to be bossing games

Just out of interest, how many who played tonight will play against wolves?
At least half of the team from tonight! That's the problem ? Shit and meaningless result AND half the first team knackared now for the must win v Wolves on Sunday. Wolves won't be stupid enough to put first team players out tomorrow in their dead rubber.

And for what? So that Mourinho doesn't have a shameful scoreline?! More than selfish. :banghead: Could have utilised a whole 2nd string/youth team out :brb:

Don't get me wrong, I am a big Mourinho fan and I think he is good for us but I was a bit miffed with some of his selection against Manure but tonight there is no excuse and no-one else to blame. Wasted opportunity on all fronts! Not confident v Wolves now

Is this actually a joke post surely?!
it’s called squad management, he rested some very key players who’ve had a lot of minutes so they’re fresh for the wolves game and so they avoid injury and have minutes to back ups which boots their morale and gives jose more information about then for longer term, he played a half and half team as if he’d played a FULL actual B team with tangana and skipp and parrot against Bayern away who already beat our first XI 7-2 at home what good do you think a 10-0 mauling would do to their confidence?

he picked the perfect team given what he had available and now jan Aurier son dele and Kane are all super fresh for the wolves game

I seriously think mourinho is still playing Dier because he once saw Dier as a good player and still thinks he is that player. He cannot bring himself to believe that Dier is so crap now. Hence, he's giving him opportunities to get back to that form, physically as well as mentally (by giving him captaincy).

But after 4 matches persisting with him, i want to believe that he has seen enough that Dier is beyond repair.

It's not just that. He doesn't seem to know who's around him. Players just ghosting past him to sit between the lines. I honestly think if he's not at CB he's nowhere near good enough for a top half PL club. He's like a training cone when the opposition has possession.
Yea I agree, strange that Jose wanted to buy him and seems to rate him. Poch realised he’s pony in CDM and dropped him yes he had injuries but really he’s clearly no where near good enough at this level, compare him to say xavi alonso in his prime as CDM at Real Madrid which is the level of player we need to win big big things, dier is just so so far off in so many ways it’s unreal.

let’s see how this pans out...

Personally, to downplay today's performance due to us playing a so called weakened team is a bit short sighted. It's not just about the Wolves game. We have a packed Dec schedule coming up and we can't keep playing the same team that is going to feature against Wolves throughout Dec.

We are going to have to rely on some of the players that played tonight as well. That is why tonight's performance from some of them is a bit concerning.

Well Son came on didn't he, talk about fresh. It's stick or twist for me and we didn't do either tonight. 4 fresh players from 11 for a must win game coming up, is not great, is it. And all the Xmas pile up coming up. We already lost 7-2 first time, it can't get worse than that can it. Plus Bayern was never going to be full strength. And with a full 2nd string/youth, some of them could have come away with some credit not low confidence.

I was fairly anti-Mourinho due to his past behaviours, arrogance and seeming tendency to create toxicity, but once official, I quickly thought I'd have to be prepared to give him a chance. Generally, i have been mostly impressed with how he had conducted himself and how we have played.

But can someone please explain to me what he sees in Eric Dier that I can't see? Wtf is happening here with Dier's continual selection?

I guess Mou wanted to give an innocuous game for Dier and Sissoko to build up partnership as we have to rely this pair in Dec and Jan inevitably. Lucas will give way to Ndombele for the wolves game, so only Toby Dier and Sissoko are not‘superfresh’

Didn’t watch the game, saw we fielded as weakened line up as predicted, but how bad were we on the day?

You may have answered your own point there. The front group are responsible for retaining possession further up the pitch. If they don't do that then the ball keeps coming back and the defence is put under pressure.
Agreed. I would be more critical of the front 4 if they were all 8 foot tall and capable of hooking a hoof out of the air.

I'm sure Jose didn't expect to win but treated this as a friendly. Surely by now he should be able to see that Rose, Sissy, Eriksen, Dier and KWP have no future here. I hope his ego doesn't convince himself that if he persists with the likes of Dire and Sissy as our 2 deep CMs that he can improve them, time to move on.

GLC was disappointing but also lacks game time so not sure if much can be taken from his cameo, did some good things but gave the ball away alot, he needs more game time. Sess was a bright spot, nice goal and a played OK.

And that Davis as a LB was brilliant, love to sign this kid to replace Rose.

Agree with all except Sissoko. He is the best we have currently until Ndombele can play. His directness is a positive trait in the current Mourinho's coaching. 2 goals so far is no fluke for him.

All this "lack of game time" and "match fitness" is a nonsense, IMHO. Its December, these guys are professionals, who have the best of the best when it comes to being ready. GLC didn't do himself any favors tonight and Ndombele, needs to start moving about the pitch, when he plays. Sess did himself a world of good tonight.

I've just watched the whole game without knowing the score. Frankly I wish I hadn't.

I would've liked us to put pressure on the ball when they had it and to track runners. In fact, it would have been nice if we had bothered to do either one of those things instead of alternating between staying static in a shape that Bayern moved around and through at will, or milling around in a fairly confused state.

A couple of things have confused me. The BBC report says that Sessegnon was our best player and that he did himself no harm in competing for a first team place. Perhaps they were confusing him with Alphonso Davies, Bayern's 19-year-old who was impressive throughout in both defence and attack. As far as I could see, Sessegnon did a couple of nice touches and scored a good goal, but was left chasing shadows and lost every challenge with a Bayern player. Still, it's early days for him.

The other thing that I find confusing is our (well, Gazzaniga's) continual floating of high balls towards a striker six inches shorter than his marker with nobody near to pick up any second ball. We may as well have just lobbed it gently to Thiago to start another Bayern attack as that was what invariably happened.

If anything, that was worse than the display in the 7-2. True, we caved in then while we didn't here (although if it wasn't for Gazzaniga and the woodwork they could easily have had double figures), but at least then we played fairly well for a while. Today was just embarrassing. I know we left four at home (two of whom are actually good) and we have six injured, but the team that played was good enough to compete; and they just didn't. Let's hope for an improvement before the next round.
