Do you think people didn't have personal views or criticisms in the 70s? All that has changed is that there are public outlets for those views.

In a lot of ways I agree with you. I loved supporting Spurs through the 90s, even if the football was largely terrible. I was proud to be a Spurs fan, and just took each game as it came. These days the atmosphere at the Lane is largely depressing (though don't assume that negative comments on forums necessarily correlate with how posters are at games - I'm very critical at times online, but sing my heart out and support every one of our players when in the stadium).

Of course money has changed all that. Back in the 90s, there was far more potential for a team to make a few good decisions and find themselves having a relatively successful season or two. These days, the divide keeps growing the longer a team is on the outside of the CL places, and hence the frustration grows.

You can't ignore context. People are now more aware of the finance and politics involved in a team's success. Rightly or wrongly people also want more entertainment when they are paying significantly more to see their team play than they were in the 70s.

I'm close to packing in football altogether for some of the reasons you've raised, but the magic of Spurs keeps me coming back for more. The game has changed. Attitudes have changed. Expectations have changed. And they will all change again in the future. Ride it out. The "low life supporters" you decry will either disappear, or adapt their expectations. We live in an age where all the different perspectives on our club can be vocalised easily, and there will be opinions that you don't agree with.

I'm afraid that if you don't want to contribute by arguing your corner, you're just going to have to either deal with it or bow out of the discussion.
You make some very good points.

I remember the 80's and 90's and while people had differences in opinion, it was never as collectively hysterical as it is now. You may or may not be right, if the internet was around in the 70' and 80's people may have behaved the same way as today. The criticism then was aimed at the football, not the personnel (largely). As I say, you make some very good points.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion – no matter how ignorant the opinion – and can make for interesting debate. I usually don't care too much if people don't want to change their minds and I certainly do not try to change peoples views. But it has got to the point where it's negatively affecting the club. I've said in previous threads, I don't want Tim as our manager, he's nowhere near ready yet. So I agree in part. But my criticisms and views about footballing reasons only.

"but the magic of Spurs keeps me coming back for more" Lol, I know, it kills you doesn't it! I remember in the mid 80's and I was 14 thinking, "I'm too old for this s***". Even at such a young age, I was destined for dissapointment. But it's true, I wish I didn't have Spurs in the blood, it would be easier to walk away from it.
