Is he going for oil money or on loan? Petrov included?

If it's oil money then take it & chuck it at Inter for Muntari. If it's a loan the it might help DB sort himself out away from London.

I prefer Giovani on the right to Bentley anyway. I do think Bentley will come good, but i'm not convinced he'll ever really suit our style. I'd rather a quick tricky stand in for Lennon, someone who can run at defenders with pace and get to the byline. Something Bentley just doesn't do. I'd be happy if we keep Bentley in the squad, but if we're getting good money for him then he is dispendable. Especially if we get Petrov aswell. Kranjcar and Petrov on the left, Giovani and Lennon on the right. Modric moves to the middle where he can dictate play more. What a squad that'll be.

i dont wanna see bentley go but it looks like it will mean gio being the first in line to replace lennon (kranjcar isnt used to playing on the right whereas it is gio's natural position in a 442).

I just know that wherever bentley goes, he is gonna come near to how he was at blackburn. Hope he goes to everton as opposed to villa or man city

Just appeared on SSN yellow ticker: David Bentley in talks with Manchester City.

I turned TV on and saw this scroll round - Manchester City in talks with Tottenham over ....... (held breath, expected to see Lennon or Modric) and actually felt quite relieved when it was Bents. Having said that, I still think he could have a role to play with us, putting in good crosses for Crouch a la Doncaster game.

Yeah but I don't think Moyes would spunk £12m+ on Bentley though, not to mention his wages.

I hope DB stays, I've always said he will come good and I'm still saying it. All he needs is a couple of good games with the fans behind him, he is one of those who has to be loved

If Bentley goes, Petrov must be included in the deal. It's clear Hughes doesn't like him.

So, that would leave us with the following:

CM: Palacios, Huddlestone, Jenas
LM: Modric, Petrov, Gio
RM: Lennon, Krancjar

We need 1 more player that can play on right and 1 DM to back up to Palacios.

I would like to see one more LB too as Assou-Ekotto has no natural replacement. And Bale is not really a LB in my opinion. At best a LWB, but more of a LM.

Its galling and typically Spurs to sell arguably the Premiership's best crosser when we hav a seriously decent target man.

I really hope the rumours are wrong on this one.

unless its ridiculous money that we can use to get in a top player in jan (to get a top player in jan you'd have to overpay so we would need a good fee from this one) then i wouldnt want to sell him to city. its definitely weakening our options especially if lennon picks up a knock and is strenghtening one of our rivals for a european place

The most ridiculous thing being that Bentley will get even less playing time at Man City than he will for us. He's hardly going to replace SWP.

You have Kranjar and Gio the wrong way round mate but good point DM back-up

True, but if you look at how City line up, its 4-5-1/4-3-3 with Adebayor in the middle and Tevez, Wright-Phillips, Ireland and Bellamy/Robinho behind.

Bentley would only fit in a 4-4-2 really so I don't understand Hughes' motives.

I suppose when Santa Cruz gets fit will they revert to a 4-4-2? But then what for Tevez and Robinho?

I think we should have had O'Hara here as Palacios' back up. He did well in his place against West Ham in Asia. And he has played left back before so he can tackle.

I agree punky, need to keep him now as we have the players in place that can play the kind of football that suits him. He gives us not just a back-up option but an option to play a completely different way

Ahh yeah! Sorry, I immediately think of what is their preferred foot and place them there.

But for sure. Someone like Kevin Anin or the like to be happy to play Carling Cup and FA Cup games and be back up to Palacios.

Anin was due to be transferred to Sochaux yesterday for 2.5m Euros but failed the medical due to achilles injury. Can't see us taking the chance unless it is a loan, which Le Havre are not interested in.

SSN are saying it's most likely to be a loan, i really don't see the point in that.

Agree 100% with that. He is far from being my fav player at the club but one thing that is certain is that he is the best crosser of the ball we have.

I can see why Hughes wants to sign him with Citeh having two excellant target men on their books (Ade + RSC)...

Man City are going to be one of our biggest rivals this season. I just don't see the logic in making them stronger
