What a night, i was in the 'cage' the end bit of the shelf near the park lane, absolutely mental crazy celebrations...we partied in the high rd , all the restaurants /bars stayed open and boy did we get hammered.

I remember it well, I was eight years old, and my parents let me stay up late to watch it. Grreat memories, which is why as we are in the Europa this season, we may as well try and win it.

It will be interesting to see this season if Rafa is named in the list, seeing as he made a fuss of not being in it last season.

I hate all this boring bollocks about finishing fourth and being in the champions league. Better to go and out and have the glory of actually wining something. Even winning the carling cup under raincoat and ram-ass felt better than finishing 4th.

League positions and finance come and go, trophies stay in the cabinet.

Sure football is all about the money, but if we don't want to win anything then why do it in the first place.

As a 9 year old I scored 4/5 penalties vs Tony Parkes in 1989

One of the best days of my childhood.(y)
THat's nothing.....

I scored 5 out of 5 against the might Kevin Dearden at Griffin Park during half time of a Brentford match (woweeeee)

My dad went to both legs of our Uefa cup victory over Wolves, he clearly hold very fond memories of that considering the 1000s of times he has told me the same story whilst at a Spurs game

It was a decade before I was born, the match in question for this thread happened when I was 3 and as such my concious memory of SPurs silverware begins in 1991

I'm pretty sure we will try, and wasn't Rafa only left out because he had just picked up a hamstring injury and we figured we could get through the group anyway?

It would be awesome to win it, but the modern game calls for CL. A quick look back over the last 20 FA cup winners and it looks like only 2 of them were teams not in the top 4. The modern super star wants to play in the CL, and the more super stars we have the more likely we are to reach finals and win something.

CL qualification isn't necessarily a success in itself, but it can be the life blood that let's us be successful over the next 20 years.

Pompey won the FA cup. Birmingham won the League cup. They both have a more recent trophy in the cabinet than we do, but I'm sure none of us would want to swap places.

I was 21 and somehow things haven't really been better than those 3 years. Two FA cups and a UEFA cup. UCL was good but cant match those days :)

I think to be fair its comparing apples to oranges somewhat

Football in the last decade is in my opinion a different game to what it was in those days

I agree but cant take away how i felt winning those cups in that 3 year period. Q/F of UCL didn't give me the same buzz and surely football is still about enjoyment!

I did a thread some weeks about enjoying the run in because people were so stressed about UCL qualification and clearly not enjoying the thrills and spills of the football season. Silly if you ask me to get so stressed over qualification to a cup competition. I was nervous for the FA cup semi but not stressed, I was disappointed to lose but not stressed.

I cant get excited about saying to mates "Remember Crouchies goal against City to get us in UCL" Yet ask me to talk about the FA cup run of 1991 and then I get excited.:)

In those days the uefa cup was the best of the 3 European competitions!

I was on the shelf that night, incredible feeling to win a big competition in your own stadium!

Can you get equally excited to talk about Woodgate's header against Chelsea though?

I listened to it on a car radio, while in France with my family, on holiday. I had to move the car to a specific point to get the best reception on 909! It certainly was a memorable evening and far more exciting than merely coming fourth!

I want to win Europa League. If we win we equal most wins by one club in the competition so lets go out and bloody win something. Focus on the league and 1 cup, out of the three cups UEFA Cup would defo be my pick.

They should move the Europa league final to a home and away match, it definitely adds to the excitement!

Agree fully, but I really don't think we would win it even if we went all out
