I think Verts and Lloris are gone whatever happens tbh. Unless van Gaal turns up with the associated wave of publicity and new optimism.

We just have to hope Baldini replaces them satisfactorally and uses the excess cash to strengthen other areas.

Re this season - I still expect Soldado, Paulinho and Lamela to come on strides in the second half of the season, which will be like new signings.

soldado paulinho lamela all good players but they dont have the character , mentality and ability to dominate a game for us and change it. we are missing that game chnager imvho. it costs money to replace that , thats the signing i want , not a like for like. wont get it in january but at least somone who commits players and can score goals because we still cant score for shit from midfield imo apart from siggs.

This mysterious, immaculate player you just described is Mr Christian Eriksen. He's been scoring goals, setting them up, and his influence is gaining more control over our attack with each game. It hasn't been talked about much because of the general negativity that resulted from the game, but Eriksen was still making some excellent runs late into the match at the Emirates. Once he gets a full run in that No 10 position, I think we have a more than adequate VdV replacement.

But I agree that the other three players are simply not of that personality.

A decent goalscorer is vitally important just compare

City 63 goals
Liverpool 53 goals
Scum 43 goals
Chavs 43 goals
United 36 goals
Everton 35 goals
Us 29 goals

That's our competition, our current striker options have produced less goals than our rivals for a CL spot which suggests that we should be more concerned about adding a goalscorer who can boost us rather than being content with what we have. Goals from a third option is vital not merely as a player who can turn out for a couple of games. I hope that Lamela might step up, I sincerely doubt Harry Kane is at the stage of his career where he will make a difference, but if we want to boost our chances of getting CL adding a quality player has to be a far better option than ignoring the fact that we have failed to get the goal tally we might have hoped for with the players we have. It's OK saying we have Ade playing now, but he can be a very hot and cold striker

since we changed our tactics and formation our goal tally has gone up ten fold so your post is a bit mmmmmmm daft.

I'm not sure it's that daft as we have been struggling for a couple of seasons with the need for more goals in comparison to our rivals but I do agree with you it is improving.
We do need someone else but its very unlikely that we will do business this window.

We had 15 goals before and by your reckoning we now have 150 goals whereas we have 29 so I would suggest your mathematics is a bit daft

No doubt we have improved our goal tally under Sherwood but in a short period of 6 games you could find that average may distort significantly over a longer run, equally Ade has come back into the picture in that period and is having a good run, but he can run hot and cold and also he could get injured

We failed to score against West Ham under avb and they're fucking awful.
If not for penalties we'd have failed to have scored against Swansea, Palace and Hull.
It took a 94th minute goal to score against Palace.
If you think our failure to score was anything other than poor tactics and team selection you're from another dimension.

Did it?

Is anything going on? Seems like nothing is judging by the RO! Has there been any snippets that havent made it there?

Did we ever find out what Baldini is/was doing in Italy?

No but in other speculation apparently Juve have sent an agent to London to try and tie up Capoue, so we have Baldini reportedly in Italy in part to try and do a deal for Capoue and their man here, no wonder some deals are long drawn out affairs :)

Looks like Adam Smith is off to Bournemouth permanantly - he has changed his Twitter header to delete reference to Spurs.

He has also just tweeted a hashtag 'New Chapter'

Shame I was looking forward to him taking over as Walker's deputy, which as a fast attacking FB he's a good l'ike for like' deputy - but if Smith goes, Naughton stays

It's too bad but I think Fredericks had leapfrogged Smith, and there's no point in keeping him around as fourth choice. Best of luck to him.

What happened to him? Whenever I used to see him he played well. Could defend and decent going forward. I remember when he came from nowhere to play in a pre season friendly ages ago, against Dortmund I think, and thought we had one here.

Dortmund is going back to 2008 when Smith was about 17 !

Agreed with all that. IMO his last 2 loans ((Millwall and Derby) have not gone that well - but whether that is because he's not kicked on as much as he might have or bad luck is difficult to tell. Think its also a bit down to AVB not involving him inn pre-season either this season or last season - maybe he didn't fancy Smith which happens of course ?! But as my post said, I thought he could easily do a job for a lower PL sicde - I recall him playing for MK Dons against PL side QPR in a Cup match and looking one of the best players on the field about 2 - 3 years ago.

Hope we have a good sell on % in the deal, and a buy back clause.
