As others have said we have to put out a full strength side we have a chance of getting to our first final since 2009, I will be very angry if we blow this opportunity by putting out a weaken side and getting beat. Put it beyond doubt if possible in the first leg then in the second leg use the youngsters and some of the second string.

We should put a full strength team out, try to finish this tie in the first leg

Same here. Smash em at home, reserve side 2nd leg assuming we have enough of a lead. If we can get 3 goals up in the first leg, there is no way in hell our 2nd side would lose by that many in the return leg.

I know football doesn't always work this way though!

Yeah, Burnley in 2009. Went in to that return match 4-1 up thinking the tie was won!

Sheffield United might have had some good results, but they're not Burnley of 2009. I think we'll be professional.

It's a semi-final against a team that are winning a lot of games at their level, and have also knocked out some Prem teams. Why risk a realistic chance of some silverware by playing a weakened team? As it stands, we have a much better chance of winning the LC than the FA Cup.
Exactly. We have 4 tournaments and we need to prioritise based on winability as well as historical prestige.

We keep big guns on the bench at Leicester. If we're in trouble we bring them on. Then if we get through and it turns out, say, we're drawn at home to lower league we can potentially re-prioritise as we're a game from a Wembley semi (assuming we win that and progress to quarters)

The league cup is great to win too given that it's all over by Feb. The FA cup is the tricky one and obviously the Europa.

Love me a bit of Europa though, especially when it's knockout against decent sides.

I hope we go deep in that a European final would be amazing, especially with the CL prize at the end. The FA cup is the one I'm not that fussed about this year. Hopefully if we make it past Leicester we score a comfy draw as February is already looking brutal.

Think the first leg at home will be a tricky one if Sheffield sit back - likely result is a small win so we'll need to score goals in the 2nd leg when I expect Sheffield to go all out to win, they've nothing to loose then.

Which means a fairly strong team for both legs - if we are lucky Poch has one or rwo youngsters on the bench for 2nd leg so if we het ahead by a couple of goals we can bring one or two on.

Which is why we should play youngsters in the return leg if we have a comfortable lead. They want to impress, and complacency won't be an issue.

They're the team that got to the semi finals of the FA cup last season and have knocked out PL teams in getting to this semi final. They're cup specialists.

I liked Chadli today on the left. OK, nothing came off for him but I still liked. We gotta drop the 2 DMs

Yeah I liked Chadli on the left as well but the reason nothing came from him is exactly because we played two strikers. With two up top generally all the space in the channels is occupied and the two strikers need people in midfield feeding them. So Chadli played deeper yesterday being more involved in build up play and made far fewer runs off of the opposition back four which is where he is dangerous. With Sunderland sitting deep he had to run at set, organised banks of four which he is useless at because his game is about intelligent movement and not about outrageous pace or trickery. If we have one up top he can play higher and cause more problems, he's wasted as winger

A big squad, too much mediocre players.
You don't reach 5th position in the EPL with more than half the season gone, in a cup semi final and still in two more cups with mediocre players. Our players might not be perfect but they are damn sight better than alot in the EPL and I for one love our squad, warts and all.

Would love it to be the case that we can make significant changes to the second leg,but this being spurs i can still see them being in the tie after the first leg.
Although Our away form is better than Our home so we might have to win it there.

In a normal game we would never loose by 2 or 3 goals to such a side. But in cup competitions it is something different. It is about the psychological aspect. A team just needs to get going and the other is shitting themselves. Then anything can happen.
So even if we win the first leg by 2 or 3 goals, I'd go full strength in the second leg with minor changes just to take every hope from them. But the bench should be full of 2 or 3 youth products who can come on if it is save in the 60th/70th minute.

But let's play the home game first. Full concentration is needed but we just can not miss out here surely?

Vorm
Walker Fazio Vertonghen Davies
Dembele Onomah
Yedlin Chadli Townsend
Kane

Lloris, Dier, Mason, Eriksen, Lamela, Stambouli, Soldado

If Fazio is unavailable, then Dier and Vlad on the bench.
If no Mason, then Paulinho
If no Lamela, then Oduwa
