No point judging how well they work as a front three until we play a team who don’t play with 11 men behind the ball, camped in their own half. Son has been poor recently and thats not down to him being in bad form, more because he’s got literally no space to run into.

We’ll really test our title credentials (and see how well this front three work) when we play against teams who actually set out to win the game.

I thought Bale offered more today than Lucas normally does.

Bale needs to either be involved more in build-up or making more runs. Or both.

For me Lamela is best option right now and I also want to see more of Bergwijn and Vinicius.

It's good we have options and Bale will get better and better.

I know the Bale-Kane-Son attacking trio is what's getting all the hype... but I'm beginning to wonder if the answer is a bit more abstract.

Lamela - Kane - Son
------ Vinicius ------

Kane is very clearly our main creative pivot in the final third, basically completely taking over Eriksen's role in the team, while still being a genuine goal threat. Even when he's named as the striker on paper, he still plays more like an attacking midfielder, which makes me wonder if we'd be more consistently potent with someone in front of him. We're going to have many more games against teams playing a tight, robust defence, as we do every year, so I think we could do with an extra point of difference in the final third.
Vinicius looked pretty lively when he came on; he could've easily scored and has already proven he has some serious ability for Benfica. I think every team in the EPL would have significant difficulty defending a frontline of Vinicius with Kane behind him, who's already both an immense creative and goalscoring presence.

The jury is still out on who our best option for the right is. I'd like to hope Bale can fire up again, but we'll see. My personal bias is Lamela for that extra creative touch, along with his high defensive work-rate.

I don’t see any objective arguments that I know about for why these three wouldn’t be amazing together. I can’t be bothered to dissect them yet.

There's no point having these three in the team if we're not going to get them the ball in dangerous areas. Getting GLC and Ndombele playing together as quickly as possible would greatly improve things for two obvious reasons - firstly an additional passer and creative player in the team, and more importantly one less Sissoko. The sooner this happens, the sooner we can do away with less favourable options like Kane constantly dropping deep, or Lamela.

I don't think anything that may be labelled as a negative to the front 3 today is a Kane/Bale/Son problem, I just think

Even Kane dropping deep still to a lesser degree you'd think wouldn't harm out ability to just play better football and create more in matches like today's with GLC, Ndombele and Hojbjerg in the midfield. Add Kane to that trio and that's four clever players with the ball at their feet there and you'd like to think that would make a massive difference to our passing in the side.

I love Bale, but I’d play Lamela every time over him based on their respective performances this season.

Still looks like he’s in La Liga walking football mode to me.

Felt we were very narrow at times with 3 of them in the same space. Really important that the full backs offer width.

Ill say exactly what i said in the ndombele game. Son was piss poor today. No excuses. It had little to do with the lack of space and He made some terrible decisions and was sloppy with his passing. He needs to adapt his game when things aren't working for him. Its exactly what Kane does.

Or maybe we should lay off him a bit as he's currently the joint top scorer of the league and averaging a goal per game. Pretty much no-one can keep up that level of performance week after week and he was inevitably going to have a drop in form sooner or later, especially given the amount of travelling he's done and the frequency of the matches.

Let's take a step back before we start moaning about one of our best players after a couple of wobbly performances following about 5 excellent ones. Sure, he wasn't good today but "no excuses"?

Christ...

As for the Kane Bale Son, I have a feeling they will look better against the big sides when there's more space to play into. Bale is also a notorious big game player and I wouldn't be surprised if he steps things up a notch in those types of matches.

Still not sure it will ever be the scintillating trio we're all dreaming of, but let's give it some time and fingers crossed they can all stay fit and make it work.

I agree ! He rarely lost the ball which Lucas does on the regular and at times showed good ink up with Kane just need to get him fully fit and that front 3 with gio and ndombele behind will be lethal
