Toby was sort of owed that money for playing so well at a discount for the last few years. He could have done a good job at ManU and arsenal if he wanted to stay in the prem.

I like Vertonghen but the club spent a fortune on Sanchez in the expectation Aldeweireld was off, and he is the future. If Sanchez (who probably can't speak english yet) strikes up a good partnership with Toby, Vertonghen is too good/expensive to sit on the bench every week, and not flexible enough to cover both CB positions. It is not looking good for him.

Rose doesn't seem to be trusted and will be pulling his hair out. He needs to leave ASAP for the good of his health.

Aurier is clumsy. That will not change. Plus his crossing was shocking today. We needed width to break them down, but he could not provide it against a weak side. But he has a good understanding with Sissoko and has had some good games.

Dier's main understanding at his peak was with Eriksen Those days are gone but I think he is still a very useful utility player.

Eriksen had a good game today, corners aside. But he is going.

Poch only knows why Wanyama is still at the club.

My questions from today are why Sessegnon and Lo celso were so ordinary against a 3rd rate side. They can't be tired as they haven't played. This was their big chance to make an impression. I'm prepared to believe they are both great players, but give me something!

Why the focus of GLC and RS? The latter played left wing back and was denied a goal by a superb block in the 1st half before reverting to LB in the 2nd half. GLC was energetic but had zero movement in front of them. When new players are introduced they can only play so well and are often reliant on those around them. In this instance our forward players were non existent. Had Son not stupidly got himself sent off, Kane and/or Alli should have been rested as they were passengers 99% of the game. Moura came on with a flourish but died a death after 10 mins.

Lamela 3 - ran around a bit, nothing of note
Other than the fact it was his stubborn press where he refused to give up winning back the ball where Dele had lost it, that started the play for Kane's penalty with an incisive pass. And the fact we would have won had their goalkeeper not had long fingers that tipped a certain goal over the bar, a shot from long range which was executed beautifully by him. Yeah, nothing of note :cautious: .

I have watched a different match if tanguy is mom. For me they were all poor except lamela

except Lamela whom only played 20 mins inc injury time? and created the square root of fuck all.

Given the context of the result Eriksen was decent barring his shambolic corners. Ndombele started poorly but showed numerous glimpses of what he’s capable of. Others were average or absolute shite.

The shot that was straight at the keeper and an expected save....

That’s it for Aurier, surely.

The rest were meh. Seems as if we’ve got about 20 players outside of Kane and Son who will all give you 6/10 whichever bunch you play.

Eriksen not included. We know he’s good. We know he’s going. Can’t stand him.

God knows who I’d play. Left back for instance... rose, Davies, sess. All 6/10. CM Winks, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Skipp all 6. Dier 2.

Hard to choose a consistent 11 when they’re all average and nobody standing out...

N’Dombele looked the real deal today but next week?

I focussed on them as they have not had much game time and have something to prove.
RS did not deliver 1 cross I can remember. I did not get the impression he was enjoying himself. But the guy was electric when we played fulham at wembley last season.
I really don't know what GLC offers from what I've seen.
Kane doesn't do that movement thing any more. That's the way it is. While he still is regularly scoring, nothing can be said.
The Son sending off was the icing on the cake for chelsea - that was always going to cost us yet more points.
...

PS Generally: Sorry about being blunt about Norwich in my posts. They are a nice club and we have had a close relationship with then over the years. Peters, Jimmy Neighbour, Ruel Fox, Sherwood, Doherty, Brooke, Crook, Bowen to name a few played for both clubs. But although they battled well and more than deserved a draw, for me they seem very scruffy and technically poor. It felt like a cup game against a lower division side.

Game plan of
give it to Eriksen nearly worked.

We got what many had been asking for
but the defence threw what promise there was
away in style.

Sess. disappointing
Dele phoned in another performance.
Lo Celso not strong or clever enough
for the Prem.
Ndombele impressive in bursts.
Foyth doesn't just make a mistake
it usually results in goal.
Aurier stealing a living.
Verts and Toby just about done.

Sad, me and it.

Felt sorry for NDombele having to hold the midfield. For me eriksen didn't offer enough coming back and I honestly believe if we had someone in the midfield 3 who is a DM with NDombele and GLC we would have won that as we would have controlled the midfield better.

NDombele 8
Eriksen 7.5 (only free kick got him above 6)
Verts 4
Foyth 5.5
Everyone else 6

Penalty aside, how many shots did Kane and Dele had on target, considering they were all on the pitch much longer than Lamela?

Sess. disappointing

Dunno about Sess being disapointing overall, but I didn't like that he hardly ever went on the outside of his fullback. Think our other players didn't show enough faith in him neither, after a poor involvment it seemed like they didn't want to set him up 1 on 1 - just safe passes

This sums it up well. We are good enough up front for a top-4 finish but weak everywhere else.

Spot on with your assessment of all them except Foyth, which I thought was a bit harsh.

I felt Foyth got unfairly punished for that mistake by being subbed off by Mourinho. He's very young for a CB and an excellent ball player and did very well up to that point. Pairing him on the right with Aurier was inevitably his undoing. He got caught in possession as he was trying to find Serge who clearly had not made himself available for that pass. For what it's worth, I thought Toby could've done so much better by closing down Pukki when Foyth lost the ball. Instead he backed up towards his own goal giving Pukki space to shoot.

But I agree with what you said in your post about Toby and Verts, they're just a shadow of their former selves. I'm questioning why we even gave Toby a new contract.

Foyth will learn from this, but will Mourinho give him another chance where he desperately needs to be playing regularly.

I would Ageee in general about Foyth, but this isn’t a player who has his first minutes at a new club. How many goals, penalties and red cards has he cost us?
And yes, he has good technique, but to try and dribble out 10/20 times each game is a recepy for disaster no matter how good you are...

it’s time for him to learn, learn fast or leave.
