Ramos on King Ledley

Juande Ramos has insisted he has no choice but to nurse Ledley King back to fitness slowly.

The Tottenham defender underwent knee surgery last summer and was unable to make his first appearance of the season until Boxing Day.

He has impressed Ramos since returning to action but has not risked in every game.

King has not played since the 5-1 victory over Arsenal in the Carling Cup and his niggling knee problems forced Fabio Capello to leave him out of his final England squad.

Ramos is desperate to have King back as a permanent fixture in his side but has emphasised the importance of not rushing things.

"I really want him to play every week," the Spurs boss said in the Mirror.

"But this is something we can't control and we have to wait and see how his injury is.

"Right now he can't play any more than he does."

This explains his recent absence. A sensible approach I say, coupled with the fact that we now have Woodgate and Hutton to stiffen the defence.

To bad that we didn't have brains in our managemanet before. That would have saved players as Anderton, Iversen etc.

I actually wonder what the cup final line up will be...

If Cerny goes until then with no major mistakes he probaly will keep his place.
King and Woodgate at the back? hopefully
Hutton or Chimbonda fighting to be right back, Lee or even Chimbonda on the left (any chance Bale or Gilberto)
The midfielders must all fancy their chance of playing themselves into a cup final spot, although surely Steed, Lennon and Jenas hold pole postions with the rest fighting for the final final birth..

no doubt Keane and Berbatov pick themselves, hopefully Bent will be fit to give us an option from the bench.

Barring injuries, Cerny should be kept in my opinion and should not be droped until there is a loss of form. Making one mistake doesnt constitute a loss in form. It its whether or not he learns from the mistake, which unfortunately Robbo didnt.

I agree with the rest of your assessment, only to add in the absence of King or Woodgate, we have Dawson, who seem to play well with either.

i think there is chance he would have played for us on Saturday if there hadn't have been an England game after. Ramos probably found it easier to rest Ledley knowing that if he didn't play he could pull him out of the squad without too many questions of honestly on both the club and the player.

I did write mistakes, what I meant by that was if Cerny were to make key mistakes in a couple of games costing us points he may well be replaced (in the same way Robingson was)

I agree Dawson looked good again, he pretty much always does when he is the secondary or junior defender, things just go tits up when he plays with a less experienced defender alongside him (huddlestone/Kaboul etc)

I can see him not playing until the Carling Cup Final. Ledley doesn't need games to be at his best. We know that we can just rest him until the Cup Final and expect a world class performance out of him.

I think he will play before them, if anything just to try out the King/Woodgate partnership. Perhaps as mentioned in Europe, where the pace is likely to be slower

I hate to say it, but after debunking them for so long I am now starting to give credence to the rumours about the extent of Ledley's injury.

It is starting to sound more and more likely that it is quite a serious cartilage injury that will restrict his activity, possibly even bringing an early retirement.

I only hope that he gets better, and proves the rumours wrong, it would be a sad day to see him hang his boots up so early - and he has still got the skills despite all that lay-off time.

Perhaps he will make an appearance against Derby and quell my fears....

I don't think that's really necessary though, is it? They're both world class defenders and should be able to shine together from the off. Ledley and, dare I say it, Sol Campbell played for the first time (in several years) in the opening game of Euro 2004 against France and they were both unbeatable. I expect the same of Ledley and Woody's partnership.

Above all else, we want to make sure Ledley will be fit play in the final.

with woodgate now in and looking well, great already, there is no real rush on getting him back into the squad as much as before, so ramos can leave him out of the games abit longer than befoe! we al knew and have heard ramos say already since kings return that he will try and ease him into football againt as best as he can, so it is no suprise king miss's games

just hope he comes back in to play in the final

What exactly is he problem with his knee??

A shitload of players with totally crashed knees has got it fixed by the knee-wizard Richard Steadman in Colorado USA.

Worst comes to worst, just bring him on in the last minute of the cup final, give him the captain's armband and let him lift the cup. :)

 that doesn't even make any sense...

The entire time Deadly was out after the surgery, we all knew that there would be no way of knowing how effective the op was until he actually started playing again and, as stated by the previous manager, it will still be some time before he's back up to the old King we knew so well.

The fact he was strong enough to have a couple of run outs is fantastic news, but i wonder if it wasn't just sliiightly a bit of a PR thing to get the fans round to Wendy's way of thinking - maybe they waited for that "big test" on his knee for the Woolwich game to come around and now have a much clearer picture of the state of his injury.

Personally i don't blame anyone - we had various reports as to the extent of King's woe and the club have so far dealt with his recovery quite well, taking it step by step.

Get well soon, Cap'n, just don't rush back and wreck yourself
