FYI from the Athletic

Tottenham update:

One player who all parties hope is on the move today is Victor Wanyama. He came close to joining Fiorentina this week, until they opted to sign Alfred Duncan from Sassuolo instead.

Then last night it was hoped Lazio might make an offer, but they declined.

Wanyama's wage demands are believed to be an issue. He wants £60,000-a-week minimum, which given his recent injury record clubs are not willing to pay. The transfer fee discussed up until Wednesday was €8m (£6.72m) but we have been told this is now closer to €5-6m (£4.02m-£5.04m).

There has even been talk of a loan for the remainder of his contract (18 months) for a £2m fee.

Wanyama's representatives will continue to push for a move today, with Serie A believed to be his preferred destination. Spurs are keen to get the player off their wage bill.

The most underrated player of the Poch era? I'd say so. He had a lot of very good games for us in that period, and it's kinda beeen forgotten. I guess we've decided his injuries are too serious for him to have a future with us, because failing to secure £9m for such a good player doesn't make sense any other way.

It's the only explanation really. He's been fit for ages and hasn't featured once under Jose and barely played towards the end of Poch's reign.

He's only 28 so the fact that no-one is willing to sign him for £8-9 million speaks volumes.

Get rid and chuck the money at a loan fee for Willian Jose.
We accepted a bid for him last summer but he refused to move. There were stories that he needed to stay until Jan to get his UK residency.

Really hoping he finds an acceptable offer.

There's fit and then there is fit to play at the same standard you were at previously. I accept the rusty argument after so long out but he looks like the injury has limited his movement and ability to play at the same standard. Celtic were mentioned on Sky and that is about the best he could hope for.

Would he even pass the medical?

Victor wants to ensure his £60k per week. Fitness or no fitness. We’d all do the same.

There Is no way on earth anyone is paying 60k pw wages for Wanyama. The market know Wanyama‘s real value and it is a fraction of 60k but it is clear Wanyama wants the cash more than playing, can’t blame him for that he has a contract and seems content to sit it out and bank the money. Can’t understand why we don’t just cut our losses on him.

Just pay the guy's contract up and wish him well. Hopefully he could then find a club. He's not going to play for us again.

Immense for us until his injuries, which have wrecked his career.

Anyone seen the comments on our recent Facebook posts? On Sacramento's birthday post there are 100s of comments from angry Kenyans threatening to "send locusts" and "eat the bird from the badge" if we don't play Wanyama more :ROFLMAO:

Passionate fans :ROFLMAO: TBF they've seen his performances for the National team and majority realize that he isn't the same player he was pre-injury. Crazy thing is, knee injury and all, he's still way more mobile than Dier  I wouldn't be opposed to Vic in a 433 with GLC and Ndombele by his side to see if he can just focus on winning the ball back and playing short passes to either one of them.

Absolutely, I think a lot of people forget the difference he made when he arrived. It almost felt like as HMS SIssoko gathered steam, Wanyama was cooling off - did... did Sissoko eat Wanyama's soul over a period of six months?

Either way, he deserves a lot of credit for the effort he used to put in.

Tottenham could ultimately terminate Victor Wanyama's contract. The Kenyan of 28 years could then freely engage in Amiens or elsewhere ... The soap continues
