Chicken/egg scenario. Jose doesn't want to play him, 'cos he is unfit and lacks match sharpness. The best way for him to get back to full fitness and be match sharp, is to play. Which is why I believe he should be given a good run of games to find his feet. Just giving him 60 mins versus Chelsea, and deciding to bench him for playing poorly, is a bit unfair. The whole team, by-and-large played poorly.

It is also odd, that he continues to play players who have been inconsistent or just flat-out bad at times. (Dele, Dier). Yet, takes a little look at NDombele and to a lesser extent, Foyth, and decides they aren't up-to-snuff. In both cases, they need time out on the field to get experience. I feel bad for Foyth in particular... I truly believe, if he hadn't got himself crocked in preseason, he would have been our starting RB at the start of the campaign. Instead, he took a long time to recover and was behind the eight-ball.

I get that NDombele also takes some of the blame here for not properly looking after himself. But from what I see, it's not just a fitness issue now. It's confidence as well. And the latter won't get fixed unless he is allowed to play, and is allowed to learn on the job. It worked with Lo Celso. It took a few games starting for him to get it figured out. NDombele deserves the same in my opinion.

I hear you.

But....to me a confidence player (when not confident) doesn't want the ball. Is scared of making mistakes on the ball. The evidence from that clip, his rolling round against Chelsea and his general lazy demeanor tells me it's attitude. Desire. Will to win.

Where was his desire to help his midfield partner out in Winksy out who'd been done twice by Neto in the clip. Fucking nowhere. Even if he didn't really fancy winning it back (which is terrible) he could have at least made it look like he wanted to.

I've posted 3 times on the clip in the last 3 hours. I feel like a moron. But it's proper pissed me off!

Could just be a case of him taking more time to settle in and feel at home in England. I think the reason GLC has settled in so well is that he's lived in 3 different countries and played in 3 different leagues since he left Argentina and has had to learn how to settle into his new environment quickly. This is Tanguy first foray into life outside France, might be a case of him missing home comforts and needing time to get used to it all. He's probably had legitimate injury issues and then he's thrust into a situation where the team is doing poorly, the manager is sacked, more injuries, new manager comes in, injured again etc not really a great overall welcome IMO.
Can we stop the lame excuses?
he had issues IN FRANCE!
he was out of shape in the summer when he had no “adjusting” to do, just keep himself in condition! He certainly had enough players who have made the transition from France to the EPL to draw from If he chose to do so.
his injuries are, for the most part, because he’s out of shape! You or I trying to perform above our normal physical conditioning will get the same muscle and groin issues!
he really doesn’t seem to like the rough going & that may be the worst if it!

I don’t think he’ll be here next season. It’s an utter disgrace. Look at gomes at Everton. He had his leg hanging off 3 months ago yet can come back and play more minutes than this guy.

If we can even get half our money back I’d cut our loses. So far he’s looking like a huge mistake.

If Taraabt can become an effective DM then there is hope for this guy. Also read an interview with Hoffenheim sporting director the other day that said when Firmino arrived there, his stamina levels were worse than his grandmother's. So ruling Tanguy out now is a bit silly.

He reminds me of taraabt actually except he was fit enough to complete games.

Yeah, selling him for 30m or even 60m will be huge*huge mistake.

Of course this clip shows there is clearly a mental issue more than anything. He just doesn’t seem to understand the intensity you need to operate to be a success in the league.

He is so talented though that we have to make this signing work. Plus from financial perspective there is no way Levy will take a hit on a player after one season - we’re not Chelsea!

I don’t doubt he’ll make it with us, we just got to give him time. As others have said; expensive signings like this just show throwing money on shiny new toys doesn’t guarantee anything. There are so many different factors that can stop a player showing his talent.

Also shows why often there is a premium on English players. Of course the home grown quota plays a big part, but there are other reasons.

Forget fitness, and potentially confidence/new league etc, this is 100% an application issue.

Even a fat lad can bust a gut and try and make a tackle. If he's unfit but in the 20 mins he has he's doing the best he can then i can accept that. He's not playing and he clearly isnt trying.

If he wants to play, then he should be forcing Jose to not be able to leave him out.

He's a lazy bastard and unless we see an upturn in the remaining minutes he plays, I'd seriously consider getting rid.

Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard. Its a cliche but its true, and right now I'd take any of the sheffield United centre midfielders over him.

Such a disappointment. I was so excited when we signed him. I really thought we had levelled up and this signing was a signal that we were playing with the big boys.

I sincerely hope he manages to turn it around because hes got the potential to be the best in the world. Unfortunately he clearly doesnt have the desire to be, but then 200k a week will do that.

Therein be the rub. He has all the talent in the world, but a dearth of application apparently. Is that a permanent part of his makeup? Or, is it how he responds to low confidence? Neither fills me with confidence.

That clip is damning. No question.

Also makes me a little peeved at our scouting folks. Do they not have the ability to evaluate character? I mean, geez... that's the difference between good and great. You want players who will run through walls. Will leave it all out on the field. But it amazes me how often we seem to buy players that lack a bit of meanness. Lack drive. Lack selflessness. Lack team-first mentality. I mean... they should know these things about a player, right?

As much as I dislike Dele right now for his general malaise... one of the reasons he was so good at the beginning, was that he played with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He played like he had something to prove and wanted to win, no matter what. Sadly, we seems to have Spurs'd that out of him. But that said…. we do need more players with that sort of attitude.

Absolute madness to give him that size contract

Have all of our players turned into complete pussies? Surely one of the lads must of had a go at him?
