Honestly, anyone blaming Aurier for that third goal need to park their agendas. It was as far from a foul as anything. The West Ham player conned the referee. We can debate the blame of other players like Sissoko, Sanchez and Winks and people will have differing opinions on those players but Aurier had a good game and did not make a mistake, it’s not even debatable.

I'm not saying he was bad, but he did have 3 fouls in the last 10 minutes of the match. His good performance doesn't take away from the fouls he actually committed.

Sold himself short when giving away the free kick. He tends to rush instead of having a breather. Missing that consistency that I want from him

Oh you lot and your fucking pathetic agendas, why is Serge getting blamed for giving away a foul when it wasn't even a foul?

Is funny how the same threads get bumped all the time because some of you are looking for someone to blame, if you really want to blame someone why is no one talking about Bale's lack of pressing from the front, lack of tracking back hanging Aurier out to dry (why do you think they were attacking our left side) and the chance someone of us caliber should have scored? Obviously Bale wasn't match fit but how about we call it how we see it.

Failure to win this match was a collective effort due to a complacency which set in from around the middle of the first half. Yes there were individual errors, but individual errors occur when a team has collectively showed another side all the way to the front porch with the door wide open. The bartering Aurier, Winks and Sanchez are getting while Harry’s selfishness, Reguilón nativity or Lloris West wrist are ignored is SC all over.

There was no pressing from the front three all second half. I mentioned it in the match thread yesterday. Wasn’t just on Bale. I actually thought he did it more than I expected.

The problem still is central midfield. It’s not good enough. We should of bought two midfielders in the summer. It was obvious then and obvious 2 years ago. Sissoko and winks aren’t good enough to play in the middle and help out their fullbacks if needed defensively.

Aurier should of been subbed off when bale came on, you could see him tiring and starting giving away free kicks. It’s what he does when the game gets away from him. As mentioned, it wasn’t a free kick, but those kind of things do keep happening to serge. Maybe he winds refs up or something but they do seem to give a lot of fouls against him.

We were missing Lo Celso, I think that's the problem.

That wasn't even a foul that lead to the free kick. But somehow we have some fans here that are criticizing him for it. He should have had another assist in the game too.

Maybe.

I still think we need more in there.
If Ndombele or Lo Celso get injured then we are in trouble.

Same with Hojbjerg, although next season I think Skipp will be an able deputy.

One more creative midfielder would make a huge difference to our squad.

Allright then, here you go...

How does he fail to protect the ball right after intercepting that pass?! You can see he looks up to find a pass, but he's forgotten about protecting the ball (from behind his left shoulder). He has to know that's where the west ham player is that he beat to the ball.

It's not that the fact he made a bad touch or is off balance ( that would be far more forgivable). It's the fact that he's looking to see if Kane Bale etc. are free when he doesn't know that with 1 minute remaining at 3-2, he has to protect that ball.

It's just so shit, and if you don't know how shit that is you really don't know shit.

Well if you go back to the Everton game we give away a foul which leads to a free kick which Everton score from. Point is you still need to defend the set piece and its not like its a free kick just outside the box that someone can curl into the top corner. These are set pieces which should be difficult for the opposition team to score from and pretty basic for us to defend if everyone is doing they're job. Most teams give away free kicks in that area of the pitch week in week out but they are able to defend from set pieces so the focus doesn't go back to the person who gave away the foul.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking before I read this that those who really think Aurier is shit don't know shit.
It's not Aurier's fucking fault.
Your two sentences are separate issues.

I don’t believe anyone genuinely thinks Aurier *is* shit (nobody in our squad is outright shit), but people are entitled to think an individual action is shit.

I shouted at the TV as soon as Aurier made that touch, but do I blame him for the goal? Absolutely not.

His problem was the split second hesitation rather than the touch itself (I’d argue that he should’ve touched the ball in the direction he was running, but it’s easy for me to sit here saying that in hindsight).
If he’d have smashed it clear, who’s to say West Ham wouldn’t have scored another way?
Winks, on the other hand, made a decision which was directly responsible for an opposition player having a shot.

I personally had a bigger issue with Winks trying to take a touch to set a counter as opposed to just hoofing that shit anywhere. That was the more direct error for me. Aurier’s wasn’t even a foul to begin with.

That clip shows a lack of concentration. He's not switched on to the danger that Snodgrass is on his shoulder and takes a loose touch, then he looks upfield rather than concentrating on actually possessing the ball. I do think the foul was soft but Aurier never should have allowed Snodgrass to nip in front to begin with. It's in a dangerous area with just over a minute left in stoppage time, there's no excuse for him not either making the clearance or shielding the ball with his body. It was a mistake, even if the ref made a mistake as well.
