Just saw that now.

I don't believe in censoring people but I honestly don't know how we can stop little shits like this from these awful messages.

It's awful. We're way past the point of spreading awareness. Social media companies, governments, etc. have to do something societal and structural to deal with pieces of shit like this. I live in America, so I know all about the issues unfortunately.

The only thing we can do is highlight that it was said and to a man, woman, child point to it and say this is disgusting, vile and wrong and that we do not identify with it and will not be party to just ignoring it any longer and report it en masse to every level, the heads of the platform that it appears on, the local authorities, police and politicians (your own country and for the country and area that you recognise the abuser has originated from) demand they face criminal action and keep demanding it until they can no longer ignore it and fob off those that report it.

Then once they physically have custody of these pond scum have them face their victim in a court (I would put decent money that most of them would shit themselves if they had to face the persons they just abused) they should also have their identity put out there, if their employer decides he doesn't want to employ a racist then it's fair game as far as I'm concerned they went after a public figure with impunity so it's only right they feel the boot on the other foot. It'll start people realising there's real world consequences for their actions.

*The unfortunate thing with social media is when the likes of the current potus doesn't get a slap or warning for behaving like a shite sadly everyone else also thinks it's open season and just because it's on the internet that they won't be found or prosecuted.

Is anyone really surprised? As long as there are people and the Internet, this will never go away. Whatever the ism / nastiness. The positive thing is as long as the mentally unlwell / extremists posts are highlighted by those effected then it has a far stronger effect to the contrary.

On another note, the loan move seems to be going well for him. Yet more competition for places when he gets back.

Stop anonymous accounts. I believe in freedom of speech but you also have to face the consequences of your actions

This absolutely and entirely!

need to verify who you are so you are held accountable for actions online.

First two things I’ve read today are about Sessegnon being racially abused and allegedly Giggs smacking about his wife.

Just want to go back to sleep now ?

Censorings the wrong word for this. I’m a strong believer in freedom of speech and will defend anyones right to say someothing whether I agree with it or not. But i think it is time racist speech is made criminal globally. Time to update the law to come into internet times. This should fall into hate crime.

Whilst I'd like to agree with that we then get into 'what is racist' territory.

Some is blatant and disgusting and I hope to see an end to that but on the other side we see people being accused of racism with innocent words or without understanding the effect of something and of course you get ppl who declare everything as racist. It's a difficult line.

Perhaps we could start with blatant comments such as this.

Those words used in person would receive a charge at the very least of racially aggravated harassment with intention to insult using words (slight paraphrasing), and maybe even racially aggravated simple assault if sessegnon could show that he felt threatened by the person involved, albeit that would be tricky to prove. I’m not sure why this couldn’t be applied to someone doing this online, and if anything what that person has done is worse as to do it online shows genuine premeditation and intent whereas in person, though no less abhorrent, it would usually be the fault of someone forgetting themselves in a loss of temper.

The anonymity of a social media account needs to end in my opinion.

Seems like the later — although I'm sure this isn't an isolated incident for him, unfortunately. He didn't have the best of games yesterday for Hoffenheim so it might have been sent to him in response of his performance.

The amount of racial and mental abuse that players get through social media is shocking and can be seen publicly. However I'm sure that the private messages they receive, like the one above, are even more disgusting.
