Still think he'd offer more than Lucas despite this

Not at this time. He'll need another loan on-top of this Stoke one to really get to grips with the physicality of his position. I want him to be a success at Spurs but opposition fullbacks will have an easy time dealing with Clark if we try and promote him to the 1st team next season. He's still only 20 and there's no need to rush his development.

I agree with a lot of that, I just feel he'll offer more on the ball than Lucas is giving us, which is practically nothing.

I could not agree more! Also going out on another loan (after this), could not be for a whole season. There are too many reasons to go into and explain why (not ITK reasons mind). The fact that one season through no fault of his own was a disaster, you cannot have 40% of his contract spent out on loan! It is absolutely suicidal!

Yeah, I agree.

I think if he'd have stayed at Leeds - not moved to us - he'd be starting most games for them today. Okay, it's easier to get into that Leeds team than ours but it shows he'd be further ahead if he hadn't had two poor loans.

You look at players like Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Curtis Jones, etc - they have all coped with the physicality well, mostly because their technically ability/attitude gives them that platform. Then you have Grealish who was thrust into the PL at 19 and was much slighter back then, yet looked very capable. Add in the fact that Clarke has already had a year of Championship football under his belt, he's, unfortunately, just had a very disrupted previous year that has held him back.

My assumption has always been that Jose wanted him to spend 6 months with the boys training learning from the likes of Bale, Son, Kane, etc and getting advice from winners like Bale and Hart. Then spend 6 months on loan, where he can build confidence and return in the summer with a view to forcing his way into the squad.

You are on the money in your post. The kid was top notch and quality at Leeds. Quite a few clubs were chasing him. The year cock ups loans did him no good. I see him as a Waddle-type player. I really believe we have a player there. But we need to be selective, if loaned out again. Training with the quality we have (imho) will push him more

It's his first game there, but I thought he looked more adventurous in the clips when he was playing for Leeds. He didn't really look to attack his defender, which he was before.

Again though, he's been there less than a week?? Let's wait to see him get his feet under the table and familiar with his coach and team mates. It could be a matter of not wanting to make a mistake and get left on the bench for the next few games.

Yeah I thought so too, but only saw some of the first half and he didn’t get the ball that much. He looked a lot more comfortable and confident at this level though and I suspect it will be where he ends up.
Starting for a Spurs and England as the main attraction by his 23rd birthday ?

We can blame the previous loans for his stalled development but we need to deal with the fact that he won't be ready next season to start for us. He'll need another loan to try to continue his development because he's really not ready for 1st team football with us. We can always offer him a contract extension as he does have the potential.
