Carroll and Mason can do something Dembele can't, they can pass the ball quickly and spot a progressive ball if one is on, rather than beating an opponent thrilling but pointlessly in an unthreatening situation before dithering for vital seconds while our forwards have to check their runs and opposing defenders close down all his passing options.

Because he's old as fuck and nowhere near the required standard anymore. As evidenced every time he takes 45 minutes to dive down to his side any time a ball is passing him. Never comes off his line, doesn't claim or punch out crosses.

Possibly, but he is on a season long loan, which is better for him than sitting on the bench. Friedel probably wont need to be used, but he is still an excellent keeper to have as cover in case of an emergency.

Dembele I have always had concerns about, even when 99% of SC were sucking his cock in Autumn 2012, and I think there are major question marks about whether he would ever get in the mindset to move the ball quickly. Time and space and end to end football he might look ok, but he kills you against bus parkers with the time he takes on the ball.

If I was going to be really unkind and try and bait some posters, I'd say he was a central midfield version of Adel Taarabt... Give him one ball to himself to fuck around with and put on a freestyle exhibition of dribbling whilst the rest get on with playing actual football.

I think it's really hard to choose who of the established midfielders to go. Personally I would go with what we have left until January and see who has impressed then, I think potentially the following could flourish or flop under Poch: Chadli, Townsend, Lennon, Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Capoue.

Give them till jan to prove it or get rid of 1 or 2 and bring in MS and J-rod potentially.

Think that brings down the numbers considerably whilst developing talent through opportunities at other clubs on loan, frees space for the much needed centre half and allows those that need to time to prove themselves under Poch.
