But you can't go from 6-1 at OT and top of the league in November to throwing away that game in Zagreb without something going horribly wrong.
Zagreb is seriously the nadir in my whole time supporting Spurs. That trophy was there for the taking, even more so than the FA Cup this year. We should have been the best side left in that competition, only United should've stood between us and that trophy. I've never in my life been as angry about a football match as I was then.
Yes, I do agree. The sunk electric switch in my living room's wall is a testament of how angry I got with that elimination as well, haha.
It's my opinion that such refereeing decisions contributed greatly to that collapse, they were part of that "something going horribly wrong" thing you were talking about. Even if the Newcastle game happened the week before the game at OT (from what I remember), it still kept us from establishing a strong match winning momentum and title challenging bid (as a reference, just look what establishing themselves as clear title contenders early on have done for Arsenal this season). And after the West Ham game, it was evident how Mourinho got more cautious with his approach and tightened up a bit the leash, favoring a more risky averse approach, which worked for a while since is allowed us to defeat both Manchester City and Arsenal soon after.
