Sorry if this has already been posted, from the official site:

"Meanwhile, we can confirm that the Club has applied to enter next season's Intertoto Cup. The Football Association is allowed one entrant being the highest placed of the four clubs finishing immediately outside the automatic European qualifying places."

Link please, I can't find that on the news section. Appreciated.

Just saw this myself.

If it gives the players even more impetus to the run in of the season, whichever way, then it's gotta be good news.

This squad is gonna be worked into the ground and be one fit group of mofos by the time we start next season.

so how low could the Intertoto place be...

sixth is the last automatic place (correct )
seventh is the last automatic place if (though we wont ) we lose to Chelski
what happens to the FA Cup Uefa place in the event of the final being contested by two Champions league qualifying teams (although now unlikely)

so seventh eighth or ninth which is it :?

England get 3 UEFA Cup places which are divided one each between League, League Cup and FA Cup.

So at the moment it's 5th place, League Cup winners, FA Cup Winners.

If we lose to Chelsea it'll be 5th, 6th and FA Cup Winners.

If the FA Cup winner and runner up are both in the top 6 then the team finising 7th gets the last UEFA spot.

So we will have to finish 7th or 8th if we don't win the League Cup.

Well, like you say, it depends on all of those events.

You kinda answered your own question in that we'll have to wait until the end of the season ...

If we win the CC and 2 CL teams play FA Cup final then i guess 7th gets UEFA Cup. I'm guessing 8th would also go to UEFA Cup if we were to loose the final but that's not going to happen.

If we win the CC and the FA Cup Final is contested by two teams in the top four, we and P5 and P6 go into the UEFA Cup and P7 will go into the Intertoto.

Checking back to 2003-2004, Millwall went into the 2004-2005 UEFA as cup losers, Boro as CC winners, and the Barcodes via the league. Villa were 6th and missed out on a UEFA place. I'm not sure if regs have been changed since then.

What happens if we win the CC and two sides outside the top four get into the FA Cup Final? I think that P5 will be the Intertoto entrant. If we don't win, P5 will go into UEFA and P6 will be Intertoto.

And we could, of course, win UEFA!

It's complicated. My brain hurts.

SS57, 5th place is guaranteed a UEFA spot. See my post above, I tried to make it as clear as possible, but it's not easy!

No, it's only the one.

It's just so rare that both the finals are won by teams outside the top 4 that people just assume 6th is going to be enough.

Missed the first post, Marty. So, if fifth is guaranteed a UEFA spot regardless, in the eventuality of us winning the CC and two clubs from outside the top five contesting the Cup final, do all three of us join them? Or is the likelihood of this happening considered so low that no-one's actually thought about it?

so basicly we now need to get as high in the league as we can (and people said the league was over  ) hope we dont have to use the Intertoto, and i am sure they dont really fancy us going back in  lets hope we can seal our UEFA cup spot by afew weeks time

I thought only the winner of the FA was given a spot. If that winner is in the top 4, then the loser of the FA final is outside the top 4 they go. The FA cup only has 1 spot to UEFA to give away though.

In short, No. The situation you are describing shouldnt matter. League gives 1 spot, CC gives 1 spot, and FA gives 1 spot.

I read somewhere that if we did win the UEFA it would be at the expense of a league placing for someone else

5th is guaranteed UEFA Cup, yes. If we win the Carling Cup and the FA Cup is contested by two teams outside the top 5 it's still only the FA Cup winner who qualifies.

England only have three UEFA Cup places.

No, under the new 'Liverpool-rule' imposed after they won the CL the winner of the Champions League or UEFA Cup is guaranteed a chance of retaining the trophy and it doesn't get it's place at the expense of a team who qualified through that country's domestic competitions.

If we win we get our place at the expense of some third-rate Latvian team or something.
