Guys guys guys. People keep comparing Lo Celso against Red Star to Eriksen (or xxx) against Premiership opposition. It’s not the same game. It’s not the same challenge.

Clearly Lo Celso is the intended replacement for Eriksen, but you can’t extrapolate from this match to what we play every week.

The opposition hasn't mattered to be honest. Eriksen played against Olympiakos (who Red Star thrashed) and was absolutely dreadful. I just feel like I've seen enough of Eriksen to know that the opposition isn't the factor in his performances at all, it's completely him.

Without trying to put too much pressure on the lad, and without jumping to any wild conclusions, but...

I’m pretty sure Juan Foyth is as good as prime Javier Zanetti. Maybe better.

Good first half, 2 heart attack defending moments aside.

Dele is getting in the right places and finding space. He is frustrated with himself, you can see it on his face. That's a good thing. He'll come good soon enough.

Literally heard him scream when Son shot instead of crossing

Fair points but let’s not pretend Red Star away is some walk in the park. Check out their home record in Europe. Only last year they beat Liverpool comfortably. I’d say Red Star away is every bit as tough as 60-70% of premier league fixtures.

They are clearly different players and long term GLC is going to benefit massively from having an absolute baller in Tanguy in there with him of course.

Anyway, Eriksen is an embarassment this season. I’d take the vast majority of Premier League players in his position over him right now. The quality Eriksen we remember won’t ever be seen again in a Tottenham shirt

Foyth and Lo Celso have a great understanding, could be a real formidable partnership

Feels a lot fresher out there and the team a lot more likeable without Jan, Toby and Eriksen.

Positive signs from the two new boys too.

If Poch can keep picking teams like this hopefully a lot of the toxicity will rapidly dissipate even if results take a while.

Danny rose. I cant help but love this guy. He is so chopsy and aggressive on the pitch. Love it when he plays like this.

whilst I agree to an extent, he’s done more in this half and his very limited sub appearance, than Eriksen has done for months. Whilst fitness is going to be an issue, I would be very disappointed if Eriksen just waltzes into the starting 11 and wanders around for the full 90 on Saturday

Hope you're ready for that disappointment....

Dele is a shadow of what he used to be. Sad to see, hope he can regain his form.
He’s on a different wavelength to the other midfielders in terms of technical ability and the way they play the game. Needs to play more like a striker.

Pretty good first half when we've had the ball. Good to see us play with a good tempo and look to get forward quickly. Lo Celso and Ndombele have looked like ballers and have played well.

Our defence looks like it's ready to crumble under pressure though, so a second goal will be vital.

Dele just needs to get his mojo back.

At the moment he just seems very low on confidence.

Not going to get carried away because of the opposition and it's one half of football but there are a lot of encouraging signs there.

I think we'll still have bumps and imperfections but this needs to be the team going forward.

That was a strange half, loads of possession, some good performances, 1 up but should be 2-1 down.

Gazzaniga - 2 excellent saves.
Lo Celso - very good with his energy, movement, passing and both initially created and then scored the goal.
Ndombele - started well but dropped off following a couple of heavy challenges.
Sissoko - solid but please don’t shoot like ever.
Foyth - been fine, composed in possession and productive with the ball.
Sanchez - looks confident and is playing well.
Kane and Son - both involved in the goal but both have been guilty of poor touches and decision making.
Dier - has been poor, maybe he’s rusty but picked up a stupid yellow and at fault for both RS chances.
Alli - he’s been woeful, awful movement, passing and decision making.
Rose - another who’s struggling, a couple of rash challenges and as usual, piss poor going forward.

Changes:

Sessegnon for Alli.

I agree, and as per usual people will take one half and proclaim him the best signing in ten years etc.

On the other hand, with the way Eriksen’s been performing lately there is every case for him staying on the bench until he pulls his finger out or fucks off.

I wouldnt say he’s the best signing in ten years, but giving anyone a try over a Eriksen at the moment is must as he is so badly off for (and Ajax fans even saying he was like this for them in last season).

My preference would be Lamela starting on league and, heaven forbid, Poch actually subbing on Lo Celso for one of the attacking players at least 20 minutes before end to let him ease in.

But Lamela is sadly unavailable so I would throw Lo Celso in as he can’t be any worse...

There's still some changes that need to be made imo, LB for starters. I quite like Foyth at RB but admittedly it's Red star so want to see him vs better opposition but in January we should be looking for a CB and DM imo and depending on Foyth a RB.

Be good to see Sess get 20 minutes or so in the second half.
Our team is real WIP and more recruits needed ASAP. Those that don’t care can also fuck off ASAP

He’ll be fine, he looks very determined like he’s trying too hard but that’s fine.

remember this guy has scored more goals at his age than beckham Gerrard lampard and scholes! He is an amazing talent, keep faith. He just needs a run of games

I think we've played reasonably well. I like our shape. We're playing a very similar style to City, but unfortunately we don't have the players they have. The right side has been pretty good. Foyth, Le Celso and Ndombele have done well going forward and have been unlucky a couple of times with difficult balls, but they've generally used the ball well and smartly. Pity I couldn't saw the same about the left side with Alli, Son and Rose. They've been very frustrating. Alli and Son have had good enough movement the ball that maybe Alderweireld might have picked out better than Sanchez, but with the ball they're struggling to do simple things.

The back four have been very worrying though considering how bad they've been.
