Jermaine Jenas has kicked-off the Fabio Capello era with the first goal of the new England manager's reign in tonight's friendly against Switzerland at Wembley.

Starting in a five-man midfield, JJ has often been the furthest forward supporting lone striker Wayne Rooney and his efforts were rewarded in the 40th minute.

Steven Gerrard started the move with pass wide left to Joe Cole, who beat his man, reached the byline and cut the ball back perfectly for JJ to tap in with his left foot from six yards.

England won 2-1.

Did well to lose his marker at the last minute. Rest of the game was good with exception of ball on the right just before the goal

Yeah they didn't give him a mention but he was one of england's greater attacking threats til he went off.

Hopefully this'll give him the confidence to push on even further!

It seemed very much like they didn't want him to do well. Motson sounded genuinely put out when he said, "Well, Jenas has clearly been picked on current form only." Erm… yeah, why what else should they be picked on? Donut.

Motson's a dinosaur, he annoys me more every time I hear him talk. He really hasn't got a clue any more. He's going to end up like Bobby Robson, they'll just wheel him off and on.

Thought Jenas did fine. Nice movement for goal, got up and down well, some misplaced paces, but then who wasn't doing them?

I thought he did well.

Played a lot better alongside Gerrard than Lampard ever has.

Surely not! Lampard was only missing due to injury.

Seriously thou, thought JJ did well in a nervous England team. A nice surprise to see him start.

He was nervous in the beginning, screwing up a easy cross. Then he played better after he scored. Best performing new comer is Bentley, by far.

Thought he was better than Gerrard when tey were on together, especially considering they were both playing the same role.

He seemed to just be getting into his stride when he came off too.

There was a definate lack of respect for JJ tonight, i thought...Bentley was good, but not as good as everyone was making out, JJ was just as good AND scored...What's the problem with people about JJ?? It annoys me, even Shearer said he needs to be loved in a team to play at his best, well lets f-ing love him and he can be as good as gerrard for us, and if he keeps scoring goals he will be a great midfielder...He just needs to get certain things right at important times, ie, pass to Joe Cole, misses against ManUtd etc..

Played very well I thought, I think he is huely under rated by the bbc motd team!

Hugely underrated by many on here, too. Yes, there is a whopping question-mark when it comes to consistency, but in no way does he deserve some of the shit he gets. And it would appear that Jol and Ramos both regarded/regard him as our main man in central midfield.

Great minds think alike, it would appear.

I totally agree, though I make no claim to greatness.

Looks like it, he seems a much more effective player now that Ramos has brought his confidence and performance levels up a notch or two.

yep Jol & Ramos have/had him as a first choice CM - now Capello brings him into the England team - but what do they know compared to the sages who told us so eloquently - 'Jenas you're shit'

how happy those people must be with their football knowledge and social skills :)
