Maybe. I'm sure United would have seeked assurances but if it was the same circumstances then yeah, they shold have been punished. He was there for two seasons too.

West Ham knew what they were doing too. Part of the reason why they were fined was down to them being 'deliberately deceitful'.

Right.
Like I said, I thought the assurance was that they would definitely be buying him at the end of the loan period and the reason they didn't buy him was that they decided he wasn't worth the agreed price, and not because the agreed price was raised by Tevez.s representatives.
I am genuinely interested because, as I said, I thought at the time that that meant United were breaking the agreement and therefore guilty of the same offence as the Spammer, but no-one, not at the FA, not in the meeja, questioned it at all.

Just had a little look and apparently it was Tevez and his advisors that poo pooed the United deal.

This is Wikipedia though!

Which puts us back to square one - if they were contravening FA regulations and the FA allowed them to loan him to United only on the basis that United were going to buy him outright and, thus, solve the problem of third party ownership, why didn't the FA expel him along with his owners from the EPL. Saying that CIteh then bought him is a cop out, they were allowed to stay in the EPL even though their third party ownership contravened FA regs on the basis that United were going to buy him, and thas basis alone, by then kyboshing that deal they would have been, in effect pissing in the faces of the FA.
So, either his owners/advsiers pissed in the faces of the FA, and the FA did, well, fa, just for a change, or United did, in which case they should have been punished.

Either way, the whole think stinks, and, like I said, I was amazed that the meeja said nothing about it at the time.

Also, I still have a distinct memory of a sweaty Beetroot Head slurring into the cameras that he (Tevez) wasn't worth that much - hence my rcollection that United were pulling out of the deal, which was an agreed price adn the only reason they had been allowed to have him in the first place.

United's signing of Tevez on loan was legal. It was pretty much exactly the same as Mascherano joining Liverpool before they bought him out - something United didn't want to do. After Tevez signed, there were rule changes regarding registration of players in the Prem.

Tevez's registration as a United player brings to an end a long-running saga, which began back in April when West Ham were fined for breaching league rules when they signed the striker and his Argentine team-mate Javier Mascherano.

The Hammers' response was to tear up an agreement they had with Joorabchian - who claimed to own the striker's economic rights.

But when it emerged Tevez wanted to join United, the Hammers, backed by the Premier League, insisted they should receive the transfer fee, prompting Joorabchian to take legal action.

Joorabchian eventually agreed to pay West Ham £2m to release Tevez from his contract, allowing the Argentine to join United on a similar deal to the one that took Mascherano to Liverpool in January.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has promised to tighten the rules to avoid a repeat of the saga.

Thankyou, Kendall.

I did understand, however, that United taking Tevez was similar to Liverpool taking Maescherano - the problem I have is that at the end of teh loan period Liverpool bought Maescherano, United didn't buy Tevez, and as far as I understood it, both loans were only allowed to go through on the basis that both teams would buy their respective player at the end of the loan period.

A player that couldn't score many goals before Xmas. happened throughout his career - a bit weird that. I guess though that Ade (assuming we get him) is off to the African Nations after Xmas, so it could work out well! :)

What's to feel sorry about, thought he was better than he was, went to a bigger club and sits on a bench. Who do these players think they are expecting to play when there is competition for places. If you wanted to play every week you shouldn't have left, simple as that.

That flying winger Downing (England material according to that idiot Hodgson) scored no goals and had no assists in 28 Premier League games! I rest my case on that score, Harry wanted to sign him.

When?

As for Berbatov, oh dear, how sad, what a shame, never mind.

Well, if it was all over the press it must have been true, and if Harry answered questions about him with his usual 'Yer, he's a good player, anyone would want him in their team' bollocks it surely meant we had a very serious interest.

As it happens, in his last season for Villa he had seven goals and seven assists, and created 78 goalscoring chances. On that basis, he would certainly have been worth considering. However, I'm pretty sure that the last credible ITK we had regarding him was in 2008—although I'm open to correction.
