I hope Bent is fit to start with Keane

Berbatov does not need to play this game, nor do I think he needs to play in the Uefa Cup games.

I dont even think Daws would make the bench for the final when everyones back. I would expect Juande to pick chimbonda ahead of dawson for the bench role as he can cover right, left and centre. On the other hand Huddlestone could possibly even start the cup final. That will be the biggest selection Ramos would need to make. Who to partner JJ out of Tainio, Huddlestone, O'Hara, Zokora, Boateng

interesting bubble - for me it was a certainty Daws would be in the 16 but I take your point

if all are fit - then the '18' are Cerny Robbo Hutton Woody Daws King Lee Gilberto Chimbonda TT Zoko Steed O'Hara Lennon Hudd Keane Berbs Bent

so 2 will miss out- however is it worth risking Daws v Derby as he is in major contention for 16 - and there's always a chance two of the '18' will be unavailable

re Berbs 4 yellow cards - I think one is from Europe (BBC stat) - however still wouldn't risk him v Derby

I can't see any harm in both of them playing and getting their suspensions out of the way IF they get booked! By resting them v Derby it doesn't change the position cos they'll have to be rested again v Chelsea (in the league) to protect them for the final!

Personally i think we need the points so we should go all out to batter Derby and take what we can v Chelsea in the league.......The first leg of the European game w should maybe rest a couple but try and wrap it up asap to tae the pressure off the second leg.....

For Derby i would go:

Cerny

Hutton
Dawson
Hudd
Gilberto

Steed
JJ
Tainio
Lennon

Keane
Berba

The position were in we have to win every game over the next 2 weeks so i don't think we'll be taking games lightly! If we risk players for Derby there is huge potential for us to slip up.......

Hi buttons - the whole point of the thread is that Derby is the last game that's relevant re yellow cards before the final :)

I'm not the slightest worried as Senor Ramos has proven over the last 3 months come what may, he'll have the situation under control through his inventive line-ups.

Ah apologies, mis-read the main site which has the Chelsea legue game as being before the CC Final on the ticket new page! Assumed that was the weekend before......

Even so....if we thing King will be fit for the final i don't think we should rest anyone v Derby in the league......i'd still go as strong as we can and only look to rest players in the 2nd European game.....

:) buttons -

but don't you think it's too risky to play key players like Berbs & JJ for example? there's always a chance of a red besides injury

Yeah im just kind of in 2 minds cos the team are playing well and if end up resting players v Derby and Prague and then lose the final (God i hope we don't) our season is completely over! Part of me agrees that we should protect Berbs, JJ, Lennon etc but the other part of me thinks momentum should be maintained!

I'd rather go at Derby full strength, and take 3 of them off early in the 2nd half. Yellows are a non issue, dont bother tackling them, they'll pass it straight to us after 20-30 seconds anyway.

Same again against Prague away, need to get a good result there. I think the Slavia home leg 3 days before the CC is when we should look to rest some of the Cup starting 11.

Hi Robin - I can't agree yellows are a non-issue - a player like Daws has to tackle/get physical to some degree or else don't play him - and it's very easy to get a yellow even if you 'don't deserve' one - plus yellows can be given for dissent time wasting looking at the ref in a funny way etc - there's no way in the Prem unless you're an exceptional player like King you can play anywhere near effectively and be certain you won't get a card

I agree, 3 points are the key and Ramos has said all along that the most important game is the next one (atleast Gus has said t on his behalf!), therefore have a go at Derby for an hour and if its looking good then get Berba, JJ (key players) and Dawson (suspension) off.

Should the same tactic for Prague away and hopefully we can rest a few in the home leg.......

I guess the only other thing that comes into it is whether the player has it in his mind that he is one booking away from missing the final there may be a tendency to shy out of challengesthrough fear of missing the game.....

Kaboul should play against Derby imo.
Its a bit unfair to write him off completely, he's made more mistakes than dawson this season.
And what about Rocha? He's fit now isn't he?

I dont really care if Dawson gets suspended, I'd hope Kings layoff is due to them looking ahead to the CC Final. Even if he doesnt make that, Hudd would be a decent replacement with Teemu protecting, it seemed to work ok at Old Trafford.

What about the fact the players that are on 4 yellows will be well aware they could miss the final and so could take the match a little 'half hearted'....think Ramos will be aware of this and pick a team accordingly....

Cerny

Hutton
Huddlestone
King
Gilberto

Lennon
Jenas
Tainio
Malbranque

Berbatov
Keane

bench: Robbo, Bent, Dawson, Lee, O'Hara

Don't think (but correct me if wrong) that getting a card of any colour in the UEFA would have a bearing on the CC final?
