Lee, Chimblender, O'hara, Gunter and now Gilberto. We're not hurting.

Wow. Good Lee hating.

Probably our most consistent player over the last 2 and a half years. Jeez.

I bet none of you have seen Gilberto play. Aside from that YouTube video of him against Japan. GrassIsGreenerCommunity.

Lee has been our most consistent player...

Consistently poor

I don't HATE lee, that's a little strong! I just think his a poor premiership left back and its a area that needs to be improved if we want to break into the top four.

Why sign Gilberto if we don't think he can do a better job than Lee though Stoof. I'm not saying Lee is shit. I personally rate Lee. But if we're going to sign a 31 year old left back I'm assuming its because he's an improvement over what we already have. So do I think we'll be in trouble if he doesn't work out to be better than Lee, no. Afterall Lee is very solid and consistent as you state and we have Chimbonda and O'hara who I don't mind slotting at LB at all, not to mention Gunter. The thing is I do think Gilberto will be better than Lee. No I haven't seen Gilberto play, but I'd assume Comolli and Ramos have and I trust their judgment over anyone's on this forum. Hoping Gilberto fills in nicely at LB isn't anti-Lee, but simply Pro-Tottenham.

We all knew this anyway really, we were just awaiting confirmation.

I feel for the lad, but we won't suffer. he's currently not good enough defensively to replace Lee, currently not good enough on the left to displace Malbranque who is somewhat undroppable, and we have Gilberto who will probably take over Lee in due course as he starts to bed in.

True. But, it was the way the first poster (in particular) was like "oh no, Bale's out, if it hadn't been for Gilberto we'd have had to play Comolli's Dog!!!1!1OMGWTF". Of course, great signing, not questioning the signing. More of a reaction to the automatic assumption that Lee should be cast to one side, and the inference that we'd be a disaster if we hadn't signed Gilberto, when Lee has been a stalwart in defence for approaching 3 years.

A thread about Bale containing several "Lee is shit" type posts, now there's a surprise.

Get well soon anyway Gareth, be nice to have you in LM at the beginning of next season :)

As far as i can see Stoof wasn't saying anything of the sort, he was merely saying that there's no point in rushing Gilberto in and piling the pressure on him when we could just play the perfectly capable Lee and bed him in gently, as planned.

We always knew Bale would be out untill at least the end of March, so in that respect, nothing has changed.

lol i think the problem is that lee is very right footed, he has some great skill and runs all day long plus he defebnds very well. The problem is he doesnt get in any good crosses when he gets so far up the pitch . Bale on the other hand showed he can do a very good job at that.

Its really only how badly right footed he is at left back. Defending wise though i think hes brilliant.

Fine, of course you are right. This player will automatically, seamlessly slot into our team. Of course Brazil being famous for producing their strong, defensively sound full-backs, and other defenders for that matter; they're simply the first country people look for, for defenders.

I couldn't give a flying crap if he's got 85 caps for Mexico or 145 caps for Guadelope. If he can't play in our system, in our team, in our League then all that matters for sweet fuck all.

Call me stupid if you like, but for the most part people have never even see the fella play and yet he's automatically assumed to be great.

No wonder none of these players are given a bloody chance. There'll be threads on here within 2 days if he has a bad game: "OMG WTF Gilberto is shit".

It's the same with everything, the new thing is ultimately better than the old thing because of
, and then it becomes impossible not to slate the old thing - to the extent that people call it "poor".

So it must be me that's stupid for being cautious about raving about a player without a minute of Premiership football behind his name who I haven't seen play a full game.

Yeah, me stupid.

Brazil do have the best defensive record in World Cup history, just better than Germany. So they can defend a bit i would say. Maybe coz JJ is playing well and Zoko is at the ACN, Wipey is the new whipping boy. To me he is not spectacular but he does a job and very rarely makes an error

Got agree with Stoof on this one. Not all Brazilians = good players in EPL.

Jose Vitor Roque Junior - Leeds United 03/04

Nuff said !!!

Time will tell (and matches) on Gilberto although I hope and prey that he is a better DL then Lee or
Assou-Ekotto as niether of those fill me with any confidence in defence. I find that Lee always comes in on his right when attacking and thats to easy to defend against (look at Harry Kewell as an example of this) :eek:mg:

Just a personal opinion....

I don't believe that Ramos is overly impressed with Lee and i don't think he will be a Spurs player next season.
