La Liga side Sevilla have offered Tottenham a cut-price deal for striker Alvaro Negredo after suffering a financial crisis.

The Andalusia-based club are currently reeling after it was revealed that they are almost £15million in debt, and facing years of budget cuts after gambles by the club’s owners.

President Jose Maria Del Nido confirmed the news at Sevilla’s AGM on Thursday, and announced that at least one of the team’s best players must be sold to aid recovery.

‘I am presenting the worst results of all my years,’ said Del Nido.

‘We have done badly, we have not taken the right road, and we have been making mistakes for two years.

‘Without selling players we will return to the mediocrity of the last decades. I want to aspire to something and not wander through the league without pain or glory.’

Sevilla have a host of top talents who could be sold to pay off the debt, including Jesus Navas, Diego Perotti, Ivan Rakitić and Frederico Fazio, but striker Negredo looks set to be the man sacrificed.

The 27-year-old has previously been a target for a host of Premier League clubs, and according to local paper El Confidencial, Sevilla have offered long-term admirers Tottenham a cut-price deal in January if they can rush through a deal.

Tottenham are rumoured to have enquired about Negredo last summer, only to be told he would cost in excess of £25million. But if Spurs can pay up front, Sevilla are now ready to do business for £17million.

It’s a hefty price tag, but given Andre Villas-Boas’ need for a new centre forward in the new year Negredo represents an ideal purchase.

Guillem Ballague said that the government wants their money they are owed in taxes now the country is struggling and the clubs dont have the money to pay them and if the clubs go in to administration as many 16 clubs may get affected. Clubs that do go bankrupt will get relegated and Deportivo look like to be one of the first

Despite this, there is no way Negredo is worth £15-17million imo, he never convinced me, if I had that money I rather spend it elsewhere

Quality striker. If they are genuinely desperate to get rid of him sharpish then we should low ball them...what am I saying, of course we will low ball them anyway!

'Eeeeeeeeey, helo Mr Levy, Negredo, £17m, good deal non?'....'hmmmm, best we can do is £1.7m, how does that fit?'

Better than Damiao I reckon. People seem more than happy to spend upwards of £20m on him which I think is pretty crazy.

I disagree Damiao has always impressed me when I have seen him and looks like he will still improve whereas Negredo always has a nightmare everytime I watch him, for £17million I expect a player better (or will be one day) than Ade and Negredo isnt that imo

Thing is though, Ade, on form and with the bit between his teeth is worth more than both Negredo and Damiao. He is better than both of them I think. We got lucky regarding his transfer fee for obvious reasons.

Damiao won't make it in my opinion, not to the extent some think he will. He is very unproven still and is getting on ( relatively speaking ) not done anything at international level and has not exactly tore the weak Brazilian league apart either.

Whilst Damiao hasnt exactly had a great season compared to last, he has scored 24 goals in 43 games with 10 in 6 in the copa libertadores and he also this season has been playing with HE-MAN and Forlan so he hasnt been a focal point

Aren't a fair amount of them goals from games against pub teams though? According to wiki 11 came in that regional naff cup where they play real pony teams. Only bagged 7 in the league. His standout season last term saw he out scored by the likes of Fred! Looked out of his depth internationally too.

He is a decent player but he would be our 3rd best forward if we signed him right now.

Llorente is the absolute dream for me but I can't see it ever happening.

Graham Hunter said it isnt about money with LLorente now, he said he wants a project in which he helps a team win trophies and expects it to be between us, Liverpool, Juve and one more cant remember who for his signature and that he turned a huge money offer down from athletic

But didn't we have reliable ITK last window to say that we couldn't meet his wage demands?

I'd love it but I can't see it happening...:(

I still think we should be looking for a player who can play on the wing as well as a center forward. We need that kind of squad depth/versatility.

I think Levy and AVB will seriously come at loggerheads in this window, I cant see us spending more than £20million tbh and it seems Levy want AVB to bring youth through and it looks like AVB would rather add new faces

I expect one high transfer player and then maybe some bargain basement deals, loans or out of contracts players lol(nelson anyone:))

Negredo is a no for me. I just don't think he is as good as is made out in some quarters, and his finishing isn't consistent enough. We need someone better, or a younger player with the potential to be better

17m isn't actually cheap. If we want a true out-and-out CF and we want to spend in that range I'd feel much better about Roberto Soldado.

Soldado's had a much better track record with injuries, and I actually think he's simply better. If the price is relatively the same, I'd pick Soldado every day of the week.

That being said, I think the priorities of this club might have changed since the Summer as a result of Defoe's form. If the end-game for Defoe is to eventually sell him, it'd be smart to keep him, keep him playing and keep him scoring throughout the whole year. He's got a contract that'll be good through the summer and he's an important part of this squad. Obviously that will all change if we do land a CF, and we get some enormous bid for Defoe from the likes of Sunderland or someone else.

I think a creative attacking midfielder and a winger that can function as a center forward should be priorities 1a. and 1b.
