some of the reactions with this guy are cleary blurred with today's atrocious perfomance. Sure he isn't the best striker we've been linked recently, but he is young, improving, had a great season and would probably be cheap. Good to remember that he wasn't given many chances at a weak crystal palace team. If he comes i'll support and hope he comes good

Worth to add Trabzon has FFP problems

Indeed, and they've been kicked out of UEFA competitions for it, hence why the player prefer to move to a third club now.
FFP problem won't stop them signing him after the season though, as the bank will know there's money coming in from an immediate sale.

Can’t lie this one stinks of desperation. He may have improved but he was really out of his depth at Palace. I refuse to believe we’ve looked at him in Turkey and think wow he could really succeed in the PL now. A lot of links are risks but so far this one feels the biggest.
We’ve had 9 months and we’ve arrived here. I hope he’s a backup just in case, as there’s no way he was anywhere near our wish list.

Believe it or not season before last we were Champions league runners up and before that we were Premier league runners up, we should be buying proven strikers, not "if he comes good" players, we appear to be behaving like a club in decline

I am confused about this list.

If it was just Sorloth, Vinicius, Diallo and someone like Wood, you'd believe that we were focusing purely on a big, strong, powerful striker who is quite quick yet not necessarily with the greatest career to date - basically looking at a cheap or opportunistic option (Vinicius).

Yet we supposedly have Eduaord and Daka on that list, and whilst both can hold the ball up they are renown for different qualities - more so their range of finishing ability.

It's just an incoherent list and that's why we are seeing an incoherent style of play and direction with this club right now.

It'd be nice to settle on a formation that brings the best out of the squad we currently have, am I tired of this sort of 4-2-3-1 and then being outnumbered in central, the wide players along with Kane statuesque and a back 4 that is more a 3 creating a lop sided, almost at times, unfindable (not a word obvs.) right back ....

The striker search feels like the wheel barrow of cash all over again with no cash and worse targets.

Either we're wanting a back up or we're wanting a compliment to Kane and dare I say it, someone who could step in a fill the void if he does leave.

We're about to sign a guy called Sloth to try and inject some pace and energy into the side...you just couldn't make it up

Possibly a combo of Jose's wishes versus Hitchen's scout list. Edouard and Daka sound like the type he would know from Europe and would fit the young future player, whereas the others are more budget friendly and fit what Mourinho apparently wants.

Purely pulled out of my bum, but could be.

So everyone on here is clueless and Sorloth who scored:

C Palace - zero goals
Gent - 4 in 19
Trabzonspor - 24 in circa 30 games

Is on par if not better than the other strikers we’ve been linked with?

He’s had one good season in a piss poor league and done the square root of fuck all before that. In no way shape or form does that equate to him being a good fit for us. Albeit a shambles at the moment we’ve top 4 aspirations and Sorloth is not that player.
That’s cherry picking. He was really good in the Danish league - for a mediocre team. And as a teenager he scored a goal every second game for his team in Norway. A simple google search would have shown you that. Even Danny Rose would’ve been able to do it.

I don’t know how you rate leagues. One way of rating leagues is to look at how the teams representing the league in European competitions do. In other words UEFA’s ranking of the different nations’ teams.

For the 2019/20 season Portugal is ranked #6. Other leagues where from we have been linked with strikers lately:

11 Turkey
12 Austria
13 Denmark
14 Scotland

I have no idea how you rate the other strikers that we’ve been linked to. But I can only conclude that we should avoid for example a striker that has been good for one single season for an Austrian team - since that is obviously an even more pisspoor league than the Turkish.

I just want to make one thing crystal clear: I’m NOT saying Sørloth is the right player for us! My point is rather that people on this site make bombastic statements without very much information, if any good information at all. It’s like a Trump rally in that sense.

Here’s last season top scorers in Turkey - you’ll recognise the Dads Army cast lol

Sorloth (24) 24 goals

Papiss Cisse (35) 22 goals

Jahovic (33)17 goals

Muriqi (26) 15 goals

Demba Ba (35) 13 goals

I’ve a question, if one season wonder Sorloth is that good why haven’t:

a) Trabzonspor signed him? bear in mind the loan only cost them circa £700k
b) Why haven’t Palace reincorporated him into their squad this season?

This reeks of a bargain basement pissing in the wind signing.
Quite simple answer to that question:

He’s on a two year loan - they don’t have to buy him. I believe there is a fixed sum for a buy after those two years, but could be wrong.
And he’s been public that he doesn’t want to return to CP after how he was treated there; however he performed in training, Benteke and anyone else would always get the chance over him.

Dunno how we can come to the conclusion that one good season in the Turkish league after being dreadful at CP warrants interest.

Not a signing to inspire confidence, but then I'm not sure any player could excite me playing in our current system.

We seem to want a big hulking striker, but don't actually have anyone capable or willing to put a decent cross into the box. Equally we don't have anyone to thread a through ball for our forward players to run on to. I just don't really know what we're trying to do under Jose, and it looks like the players don't either.
