I think you make a good point but can see why the comparison has people confused. They play completely different roles, and players in the Dembele role rarely get many goals and assists. Xavi and Modric didn’t get that many either, to name two of the best players of this century. Their job was to transition from defence to attack, play through the press, and control the game.IMO It doesn't really matter what their roles were, it's the stick used, exactly like Dembele, Traore's actual influence on games can be far more than assists and goals, it's his effect on our play, his effect on the opposition and how they set up. This is why manager after manager have rated him. But the 'end product' thing is the main objection people have and those stats illustrate the inconsistency.
I say give him a go, other teams will worry about him and with the quality in the side around him which I think fair to say is superior to what he's used to, I wouldn't mind betting his stats improve.
But i'm sure plenty will disagree
Dembele was not as consistent or injury free as those guys of course but on his day he was magnificent.
Wingers are expected to contribute goals and assists, but you are right that Traore is one of those players you can’t judge on stats alone. He has the ability to move a team 50 yards up the pitch consistently. For a team like us, who struggle to control midfield, that could be really valuable
