If we were to loan TN out with an option to buy - would that mean we could use that potential windfall of money to buy a “replacement “ this summer ? ( I ask this as Trix’s new information dropped)

I'm confident Levy would only let him go out on loan if there was an obligation to buy for the exact reasons you've stated. While this means we wouldn't get much cash for him up front, it might be the best way to get his wages off our books and get rid of his presence around the club.

I'd certain prefer we loaned him to Inter with an obligation rather than having him fester on the bench for another season.
We’d be better off keeping him and fighting for the Champions League. Or we will be in the same situation come next window — with a lot more unhappy superstars [and Mourinho].

We should be treating a push back into the Champions League like Leeds views staying up in the Premier League. We simply need it. Having a player like Ndombele in the squad can’t hurt us, especially if we’re unable to replace him.

Ndombele on loan would be immensely poor decision from the club — especially if we’re selling him at loss. With no financial outlay from the buying club this window we won’t be buying a replacement for him this window. We’d be better off keeping him.

He’d be Dele’s backup, so there wouldn’t be as much pressure for him to be firing right away and he could be coached / trained back into the side.

If it's obligation to buy, it wouldn't actually be that bad. We've always heard how our deals are structured over a number of years, and we could hypothetically do:
  • Loan w/ obligation to Inter for £50million, with payments structured as £30mil in the first year and the remaining £20 over 3 years.
  • Sign a replacement this year for £40-50million with payments structured evenly over 4 years, meaning we're only out £10-12.5 mil this year.
Plus whoever we'd buy I'd imagine would be on less wages and allow more flexibility. It's not ever going to be a simple case of money comes straight in, money goes straight out. If anyone can find a way to balance the finances to work for the club though it's our big bald overlord.

In an ideal world I completely agree. But based on last season and everything that's since come out about Ndombele's attitude and effort can you honestly see a heroic redemption story at this stage? Maybe under a different manager, but I find that very hard to imagine him ever becoming a first team regular under Mourinho. He's not an "arm round the shoulder" manager and frankly even a fit and fighting Ndombele might not be the type of player Jose would want in his system anyway.

Even a loan deal would free up some funds/wages for a replacement which we wouldn't otherwise have (and thus give us a greater chance of CL football than we'd have with Tanguy on the bench).

Loan with obligation or sell outright is fine by me. Option wouldn’t be ideal because if he is poor at his next club, we’ll be stuck with him next summer and he’ll be worth even less. I’ve maintained that we should give him another chance, but ONLY IF everyone is on the same page. If tanguy doesn’t want to be here or Jose wants him out he has to go. This isn’t like son or sissoko where they were trying but just couldn’t break into the team initially. Tanguy has had his chances and hasn’t taken them due to lack of effort and hard work, not talent. If everyone was on the same page, and tanguy indicated he would give it his all and Jose buying in to tanguy’s commitment, then sure, give him this season. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. People here need to stop being blinded by his price tag and his talent, the guy has been really poor. In terms of a replacement, yes we need one, but only because we’d be a tad short numbers wise. In terms of replacing the missing creativity: What creativity? Creativity from the bench? We had our best run of form last season with him nowhere near the pitch. This is the most important thing: we were better without tanguy! We’d need to bring someone in, but I don’t think it necessarily needs to be a creative player. It would be nice, but I think someone to back up/compete with Hojbjerg is just as important. Liverpool don’t have creativity in the middle (though that may change if they get Thiago), and they walked the league. I’m not saying we have players/are going to play like Liverpool, but we had a great run of form with lo celso being the only creative player in the side after lockdown. Just back Jose please. If he wants tanguy gone, he 10000% has to go ASAP.

Easy to say now, but it was our attempt at being ambitious for a change. I don't blame the board because his potential is unquestionable, sadly his committment isn't quite at the same level.

It’s from one extreme to the other though isn’t it. We all want to make ambitious signings, but this has to go down as a failure of scouting, compounded by recklessness with his contract.

I think its starting to sink in how much of a risk it is for a club like us signing players on high salaries after one season of standing out.

What I don't understand is how all this TN ITK is coming out each day whilst he has COVID and hasn't been with the squad since July? Surely Mourinho and co. would have challenged him to get in better shape and return to the squad to fight for his place in the team. All just seems a bit outlandish logically IMO since they haven't even seen him this preseason.

I don’t get the ‘we’ve found a buyer’ and the hints directed at ‘Inter’. If they’re offering us peanuts as suggested by the various ITK then we’ve attracted an interested party, not a buyer.

Also, with us being unable to sell for less than £42m as per our agreement with Lyon then how the hell does a part exchange work?

I don't want to doubt ITK but I do think it is a real possibility that people are presenting what is the most likely scenario as fact, we know the media does this. I still hang on to the hope that he is 100% dedicated but struggled with niggling injuries and fitness last season and there genuinely is no issue other than our concern with his fitness.

Can someone explain what the incentive is to do a loan with an obligation to buy vs a straight sale? The end result is the same. Is it because we keep paying part of his wages during the loan? Is it just financial gymnastics?

The salary is a huge problem - whoever thought it was a good idea to give him parity with Kane as a new signing is nuts. It's the first time we've done anything like that and it's massively backfired. Can only hope the salary is largely performance related as it would limit the number of suitors - whoever purchases him is going to have a hell of a commitment on their hands.

No idea why we keep on with these record signings, they nearly always turn out to be fucking pony.
