With Skipp's emergence this season and us looking to bring in another midfielder in that deeper position, think its a matter of time before Winks is out the door.

Skipp is already the better player even though he has far less experience than Winks at this level.

Winks is more of a problem for me when it looks like he may get a run of games but with Skipp now ahead of him, he'll be back on the bench next week.

Very limited in his ability going forward, will be interesting though to see if Skipp keeps his place because I feel like both lack the creativity we need.

It’s good to see Conte is seeing what we see though, as he mentioned Winks was bad in the first half and much better in the second.

For me, Winky’s problem is just a lack of bravery. When you’ve got Skipp bossing a midfield, it just shows him up more when he gets pushed around so easily.

Both Winks and Højbjerg seem reluctant to carry the ball. The amount of time yesterday they had 10 metres of space to run into but as there was no pass they went back to a CB. Really want to see Ndombele get a game as one of the two CMs as I think he'd be a revelation in this system and a real launchpad for our attacks by beating the press in the middle of the pitch.

People aren’t seriously saying because we scraped a 2 - 1 win, that Winks is good enough are they? He’s utter shite. Coward of a footballer.
No I'm saying he played one good half of football. First time he's done it in a looooong time. Still first one out for me.

Agree, was decent in the second half, he probably needed that more than anyone else.

I suspect some of the frustration is that fans expect something from him that’s not in his game, he ain’t gonna burst past 2/3 players and thread a ball, but he can keep it simple and ticking over

I dont think he played well, he doesnt do any of the hard things. He doesnt show for the ball under pressure, then our cb's have no one to play to. He is weak in the tackle or lets his man run past him, he has the mentality of an ant. Then the easy things half the time he picks the ball up in a mile of space and either fucks the pass or passes it to someone under a lot of pressure. Winks would look good in a team of a world XI around him, but as soon as things start to get a touch difficult you can bank on him being the first to disappear

Well he looked to play forward a lot more than usual and was quite positive when we had possession. You are right though defensively he's just not going to cut it in a two. Still think we'd get more out of three in the middle and two up top, or 3-4-1-2. Moura just don't suit overlapping full backs imo. They rarely look for that overlap as far as I can see, as their first instincts are to come inside, get the fullbacks on their wrong feet and get the shot away.

In my opinion none of our midfielders bar Skipp will work in a Conte midfield, maybe Hojbjerg at a push.

Ndombele isn't going to put in the hard yards needed for him to be anything other than a luxury player. If we played 3-5-2 then maybe he could be utilised behind Kane and Son but can't see it.

Lo Celso is a conundrum. He isn't bad defensively, he isn't bad going forward but he's not consistent enough and injuries seem to follow him around.

Winks is tidy enough but that is about the best compliment i can give him. Can't pass progressively, can't tackle, never shows for the ball in tight situations.

Hojbjerg appears to have all the skill sets required but there's just something that doesn't sit right with me. He can be reckless in possession and he's not always aware of what's going on around him. When he tries to get forward he invariably ruins whatever play is occurring. However, he does have his moments where he looks almost the perfect midfielder for Conte.

Skipp is raw but he appears to have everything needed. Can keep things tidy, can play progressive passes, gets stuck in, doesn't hide. Put him next to someone like Brozovic or Kalvin Phillips and i think he will progress even more than we hope he will.

No one was good first half, his second half was good.
Winks wasn’t just poor though, we was awful. He gave the ball away 5 times, 3 of which directly lead to attacks. If you watch him he doesn’t look around himself and read the game. Defensively he’s a huge liability as he’s always reactive and not proactive.

I think in that frustration, people are missing the fact that there is room in a decent team for players who just do a simple job well. Providing there's a system to allow for their limitations. Unfortunately in the middle of the park, I don't think we can regularly do that (2nd half against Leeds being a bit of an exception) and as a result, players like Winks are always likely to make the odd mistake, which in the current state of things will always cancel out anything good he does do.

I'm still of the view Winks and Spurs would benefit from him moving on. He is limited and he's lost confidence at Spurs, he knows the fans are on his back and he doesn't seem to have the right mindset to come through it. Going somewhere new, proving himself and shaking off some of the negativity would do him good in my opinion. As frustrating as things have been with him these past couple of years, I still want him to go somewhere and succeed.

Some people on here are too harsh on Winks. He's not been good but the vitriol towards one of our own players is unnecessary.

Not saying that Winks is good enough to cut it in CM, but tbf he has played very few competitive games for quite some time. Something which would make anybody look pretty rusty when thrown in the deep end.
