Spurs fan, youth academy player and I keep remembering that home game vs Real Madrid at Wembley when he absolutely ran the show.

Played in the right way and with confidence there is a player there.

I could be wrong but mabye he went to the press for the good of the team and club as he knew Jose and Nuno weren’t good for the club. Conte is good for us and for Winks so hopefully no more wikileaks now.
Yeah this is part of why all the hate for him grates with me a bit. I understand his form has been frustrating over the last few seasons, but people go on about him as if he’s the devil incarnate.

I think Winks suffers from the fact that our midfield was at one point probably the best in the league with Dembele, and Wanyama running things. Whenever Winks came into the side, the midfield was already playing well, our wing backs were still affective and the defence behind them solid. Then Wanyama, Dembele and Rose got crocked, Walker was sold, and Toby and Jan started to deteriorate with age. Our midfield was left with the Winks/Sissoko axis. That was a massive drop in quality, while the rest of the team started to creak and deteriorate too.

Is he going to pull up any trees for us, probably not, but he’s not as bad as many make him out to be.

Good post.

For me, the big question will always be over his ankle injury. He was looking decent with a lot of potential to that point. I remember reading that after that he will always play with pain. This has to affect his performance level and he hasn't been the same since.

But I also think he is quite limited. His game is about keeping possession, I'm not sure his strengths really suit us. At best he can be a sub when we need to slow the game down and hold onto the ball and play him in smaller games. But then, his performances in the ECL have been poor anyway.

The boy is tailor made for La Liga.

I honestly believe he could salvage his career if he found a club over there.

I agree.

The problem with modern football is that money is the decisive factor for career decisions. I believe he's on £60k a week plus I assume Prem bonuses are quite high.

His performances aren't on a level where I think the Spanish teams that pay those salaries would want him.

The average La Liga salary is around £36k a week.

Real Sociedad are currently 2nd and Winks' salary would make him their 2nd highest paid player.

Maybe there's hope from previous interest?

It seems both Valencia & Atletico have shown interest not so long ago.

Interesting. Strangely I've always thought he would be a decent squad player for Man City.

Had similar thoughts myself. Though I'm not sure if they were planted by a loose bit of transfer speculation last summer. ?

I think it's because he's very good at being the barometer player in a team which has high possession particularly when you're defending a lead but dictating the tempo with the ball. It's not the most exciting type of player but certainly one you could see being useful for a Pep team. I think we saw it in the 2nd half vs Leeds once we were in the lead.

He's never in a million years good enough to play for City, even as a squad option. His awareness of time and space is atrocious, so he often loses possession or just plays it safe.

What are some of you on? lol.

After tonight’s performance Conte probably realises he’ll need a tune out of Winks until at the very least Xmas

Clearly he’s miles off the player we hoped for, whether that’s due to injuries or another one that’s become too comfortable

Sounds like he’s a bit of a whinging, moaning twat too which doesn’t improve team morale etc

Needs to find another club as soon as Conte finds a replacement though

How sure are you that it was winks who went to the press? Was it confirmed?
