I snubbed Arsenal and Madrid - Zokora
utility player Didier Zokora has confirmed that he snubbed Arsenal and that Real Madrid were after him.
Ivory Coast international Zokora has been one of the most consistent players for Spurs over the last few years, and the midfielder and defender has committed himself to the Whites.
The African left French side St Etienne for Tottenham in summer 2006, and he has stated that moving to Arsenal was part of his options.
The 28-year-old claims that he held talks with Arsene Wenger, but finally made up his mind and opted for their London rivals Spurs.
And Juande Ramos’ former protégé has also said that the Real Madrid coach wanted to lure him out of White Hart Lane during the January transfer window, which proves his worth.
Zokora told the Daily Telegraph: “Yes, when I signed for Spurs, Arsenal also wanted me.
“I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the (2006) World Cup, but I preferred to come to Spurs because it gave me a good option for my life.
“I am very happy.”
As far as Los Merengues are concerned, the Ivorian said: “Everybody knows Real Madrid wanted me but I signed a new contract for this club and if they want me, I stay.
“The club need me, my life is here. Real are one of the best clubs in the world so that is good for me, no?
“That means I am not a bad player.”
A passionate and loyal player.
